Agenda:

Introduction to BES and the English Policy Group
A brief overview of the British Ecological Society and the work of its English Policy Group.

Presentations from Experts:

• Dr. Rob Booth (British Ecological Society) will provide an overview of environmental and ecological policymaking in England, focusing on urban areas like London.
• Professor Tom Cameron and Hannah Coburn (University of Essex) will discuss their research on #EssexDucks.
• Gideon Corby, a local ecologist in East London, will explore how policy impacts ecological practitioners working to restore urban waterways.
• Hannah Van Hesteren will present on Nightwatch, a Bat Conservation Trust project engaging diverse communities in urban citizen science.

Interactive Discussions:
The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session, and an opportunity for small group discussions over tea and coffee.

Field Activity:
After the discussions, you will head out to the canal in small groups to observe and discuss ecological policies and practices related to London’s urban waterways.

Final Group Discussion:
You will return to BES HQ for a concluding group discussion.

Networking Opportunity:
After the event, you will have space reserved nearby for informal networking and further discussions.
