For decades, Galicia’s communities and stunning natural landscape have suffered from the proliferation of eucalyptus plantations for the paper industry. While this provides financial benefits for some locals, the model is clearly unsustainable in the long run. The endless rows of non-native trees undeniably increase wildfire risk, deplete and erode soil, and lead to significant biodiversity loss. Recognizing the region’s exceptional potential for rewilding, Sylvester has decided to launch its first community project in Galicia. The goal is to restore a healthy ecosystem and create an educational rewilding space to inspire and empower a larger Galician rewilding movement.
Thanks to its innovative WildTokens, Sylvester is transforming nature restoration into a community-driven process. WildTokens are digital certificates, which enable the collective financing, ownership and management of land. Token holders gain access to Slyvester’s community platform: An online space to track rewilding progress and actively participate in decision-making. Sylvester is taking the lead in establishing a replicable model for communities across Europe to reclaim land for themselves and nature for generations to come.Â
Sylvester Rewilding launched its crowdfunding campaign on November 15 with the goal of raising at least €34,000 within 30 days to purchase and rewild 2 hectares of former eucalyptus plantation land in Galicia, Spain. By clearing the existing plantation trees, we aim to restore the native Atlantic rainforest ecosystem.
Supporters can contribute through WildTokens, available on https://www.startnext.com/sylvester, starting at €50. Join the community effort to help native forests take root once again!
