Conservation Connector: Flávia Martinelli
Please join me in congratulating our valued member, Flávia Martinelli, on becoming the first Conservation Connector with WildHub! Conservation Connectors are our Core Community members who connect the community to opportunities, such as job positions and events.
Flávia joined WildHub a year ago, in November 2020, and dedicated the subsequent 12 months to sharing opportunities with our community, including job, professional development and grant opportunities. In her role as coordinator for the CoalitionWILD 2020-2021 Global Mentorship Programme, she acted as a bridge builder between the mentors and mentees of that cohort and the wider WildHub community by chairing a private room on WildHub for this cohort, facilitating connections and sharing opportunities across that private room and our open rooms and channels. She therefore made a significant contribution to our community’s overall goal of exchanging information to enable better and faster conservation that helps save more wildlife.
Within 6 months after joining us, Flávia became a Key Connector with WildHub by sharing her 12th contribution in April 2021. She recently reached the status of Star Connector after publishing her 24th opportunities post this year on November 20th!
Have you benefited from the many opportunities that Flávia has shared with us? Add how her posts have benefitted you in the comment section and join me in congratulating Flávia by adding your message below!
To celebrate, I took the opportunity to ask Flávia some questions about her journey to becoming a Conservation Connector.
Thirza: “What benefits have you found from being a WildHub member?”
Flávia: “Being in contact with conservationists from all over the world has been beneficial to me and also having a private room for CoalitionWILD to manage our participants. We were willing to have another platform beyond our WhatsApp group to keep participants posted and a place where they could reach each other in a more organic way, with their profiles standing out for everybody. So WildHub was the perfect place to do this.”
Thirza: “What helped you to contribute content on a regular basis and therefore helped you become a WildHub Core Community Member?”
Flávia: “I think WildHub is a place where I can feel comfortable to share contents for a specific public: people passionate about nature. Thirza was key to this, always giving tips and helping me to understand the tools, like what badges were the best to use or which channels that were best to publish my posts in.”
Thirza: “Which barriers have you experienced to contributing content to WildHub on a regular basis?”
Flávia: “Because we're a global community I have to filter the opportunities that I access and choose those that make sense for people from different parts of the world. Many contributions that I produce are in Portuguese, for example, so it's hard to find time to translate or adapt that content to this community.”
Thirza: “What advice would you give to other members who would like to become a WildHub Core Community Member?”
Flávia: "Always think about the community, about how the opportunity you are going to post can change someone else's life. This helps to filter out relevant content."
