Hi Josephine, this is wonderful news! Thank you for sharing and congrats! What does your role as Gender Liaison officer entail?

I was also wondering the following, which may help other job seekers in conservation: what helped you be successful in your job hunt?

Thanks again for sharing your experiences with our community, much appreciated!

Thanks alot Thirza for the congratulatory message.

I have been aplying for the conservation awards and luckily the 2 successful projects were funded by Rufford and CLP with citizen science being the main approach. The study areas were within marginalized and underrepressented areas. These are communities that women are sidelined in most endevours that may benefit the larger community. These are awards that really cherish women representation in the team and people involved. As a gender liason officer my main objective now is to ensure that theres a good representation of women and girls in any project that am directly or indirectly involved in.

What helps in getting a job? Sometimes we have to sacrifice, volunteer and prioritize internships to manouvre to where we really want to be and to become. I have been an intern at Angaza Vijiji for 2 years and the internship ended 1 year ago only to be contacted by the CEO when an opportunity cropped up. Currently Angaza is involved in Bats Conservation International (BCI) Kenyan project and I am in charge of gender balance.

Thanks Thirza.
