"The food system is an important contributor to climate change - agriculture, forestry, and other types of land use account for 23% of human greenhouse gas emissions"

And not only are the worldwide networks of food shipment completely dependent only fossil fuels, but the rest of the food production supply chain is too. In addition about one third of food is waste globally. Avoid food loss would reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve food security.

"One solution is to change what we eat - balanced diets featuring plant-based foods, such as grains, legumes, fruits and vegetables and buying sustainably produced animal-sourced food present major opportunities for adaptation to - and limiting - climate change"

Action for climate empowerment that helps people lead a low carbon lifestyle in order to achieve zero carbon emissions with a sustainable lifestyle.

"We often hear about traveling less in order to decrease our carbon footprint🚛. On a personal level, this can be hugely impactful, even more so when a large number of people participate"

"But if we zoom out - it isn't us who do the most traveling🚢 - it's our food"

If were getting out bananas from another country for example, how much energy, fossils fuels, and emissions is that costing the planet? And when those bananas at the supermarket go bad, not only may there be unnecessary food waste, but new bananas are brought in to take their place. Speaking of food waste did you know that combined food loss and waste amount to a third of global food production? We all need to be mindful of not only what we purchase - but to only purchase what we need and make sure it doesn't go to waste.

"The latest United Nations intergovernmental panel on the climate change report further states that up to 37% of total greenhouse gas emissions are attributable to the food system. Those are from agriculture and land use, storage, transport, packaging, processing, retail, and consumption"

Still, the current food system feeds the great majority of the world population and supports the livelihood of over 1 billion. So if you hear talk of the need for a systemic change we need to find sustainable solutions for both people and planet🌞🌻
