Why do you need this course?

I’ve been studying and researching conservation social sciences for nearly 20 years. I have seen time and time again people like me, perhaps like you, who need to understand the communities and individuals they work with.

People who have a toolbox in their minds full of ways to understand the ecological elements of the ecosystem – how to know if a system is degraded, how to measure change, how to solve the problem from an ecological perspective.

But who come up blank when they need to understand:

◾ Why people keep anchoring their boats in that seabed,

◾ Why people don’t share your intrinsic value for forest biodiversity,

◾ Why no one seems to listen when you share an ecologically robust solution.

Social science provides the evidence about people to move past these challenges.

But social science applies methods which are often unfamiliar, technical language which may not be immediately understandable and can explore ecosystems from unusual perspectives.

This course will give you a solid foundation in conservation social science, supporting you to use social science evidence, commission social science research and integrated social science into your work for greater conservation impact.
