Oceans and Coasts Programme

Location: Lakshadweep Islands

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: (Depends on the experience)

Job Summary: We are seeking a passionate and communicative Lakshadweep islander to take on the role of Communication and Public Engagement for biodiversity conservation and climate change efforts in Lakshadweep. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be eager to engage with local communities and possess a willingness to travel between islands to support NCF’s conservation initiatives. If you are dedicated to protecting Lakshadweep’s natural heritage and can connect with diverse audiences, we encourage you to apply.  The ideal candidate should be fluent in Jesari and English. This role involves managing social media, engaging with the community, conducting interviews, and supporting various communication and outreach activities.

 Key Responsibilities:

 1.       Community Engagement:

a.       Build and maintain relationships with community members and local organisations.

b.       Organize and facilitate community meetings, workshops, and events.

c.       Collect feedback from the community.

 2.       Collaboration and Coordination:

·         Build relationships and work closely with the departments (S&T, Forest and Fisheries), NGOs, SHGs and other relevant organisations.

·         Coordinate with internal teams to ensure effective communication and outreach.

·         Assist in planning and executing community development programs and initiatives.

·         Follow up with concerned departments on administrative issues like permits, reports, etc

3.       Interviews, Monitoring and evaluation

·         Conduct interviews with community members, key informants, and other stakeholders.

·         Prepare and present reports on community feedback, and outreach activities.

·         Occasionally track impact of engagement and communication efforts

 Additional Responsibilities

In addition, the candidate would be expected to handle NCF’s local social media presence, including helping create and manage content across social media platforms.

 Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in any related field

 1.       Proven experience in community engagement, social media management, or a similar role would be appreciable.

 2.       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

 3.       Proficiency in Jesari (Dweep bhasha) and English.

 4.       Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
