Here is an interview with Chrissy By Ussi Abuu, WildHub Conservation Catalyst

Ussi:👨🏽‍💻
Hi Chrissy! Can you introduce yourself, what do you do professionally?
Chrissy: Hi Ussi! I'm a content writer that specializes in wildlife and nature conservation.

Ussi:👨🏽‍💻
Let's talk a little bit about conservation blogs.

How do I start conservation blogging without experience?
Chrissy: The great thing about conservation blogging is that there is always room for growth and improvement. You can start with what knowledge and skills you have and just begin writing. Once you feel comfortable with your research methods and you’re ready to publish, find a website service that fits your budget. Choose a title that resonates with your audience, get active on social media, and follow others in the conservation community.

Ussi:👨🏽‍💻
How can blog writers take action to address the problem of climate change, and how can they make their voices heard?
Chrissy: A conservation blog writer’s focus is on the awareness and communication of problems like climate change. You may begin with a few followers, but keep producing content because eventually, you would be the reason someone takes an interest in environmentalism. We all had a moment where we began thinking with Earth in mind, so you are that inspiration for others.

Ussi:👨🏽‍💻
Let’s talk a little bit more about your involvement with WildHub.

How did you hear about WildHub and why did you join?
Chrissy: I found out about WildHub through VolunteerMatch while looking for more ways to contribute to the field of wildlife conservation.

Ussi:👨🏽‍💻
Based on your professional background, what are the top 5 lessons you can share with us?

Chrissy:👇

  1. Find a community - There are others that share your passion
  2. Stay informed - There is always news and projects developing to learn about
  3. Choose a content schedule - Decide how often you can consistently post
  4. Believe in yourself - What’s your goal with conservation? Know that you can achieve it
  5. Share - Tell your closest friends about your conservation work and share your spark

Ussi:👨🏽‍💻
I would love to hear more about how you came to be an expert in communication and marketing.

How does your work impact other people in conservation?

Chrissy: I think we all impact each other well. When we are learning from each other and sharing our work, it provides a supportive network that ultimately benefits the whole community.

Ussi:👨🏽‍💻
Is there something that would make WildHub even better for you or people you know?
Chrissy: Nope, Wildhub is one of the coolest places for wildlife/nature advocates to be.

Ussi:👨🏽‍💻

Thanks for sharing! Chrissy, what are some of your favorite ways to share your work? Have you found that particular platforms are better (more effective at finding an audience) for sharing conservation topics?

Hi Lara! I think that it depends on where you have the best engagement or following. For beginning bloggers, aim to be visible on writer-friendly platforms like twitter, linkedin, and facebook.
