Hi

Started 10 months ago

My name is Nonkululeko Msomi, but you can call me Freedom. I am a Conservationist from South Africa. I have experience in wildlife research, wildlife monitoring and community development.

I have worked for different game reserves in my country. My future goal is to spread my wings and explore wildlife in other countries.

Hi Freedom, a warm welcome to WildHub! What was the main challenge you’ve come across during your work in SA and how did you (& colleagues) overcome it?

Thank you so much Thirza.

The biggest challenge in South Africa is funding. Conservation does not receive a lot of attention this side especially if we compare it to economics and social issues, and because of that there aren't really a lot of opportunities for conservation projects and job opportunities. However, science communication is breaking grounds and finally we are getting a platform as Conservationists. People are starting to pay attention and engage in conservation issues. I am doing my part by visiting different schools and spreading awareness.

Welcome Freedom, please can you share some of the great times you had working in game reserves?

Hi Freedom, welcome to this conservation community!

I work with local communities in Bolivia promoting coexistence with the Andean Bear. It sounds like we have similar challenges here, and since you're interested in exploring wildlife in other countries, perhaps we can share some ideas, lessons learned, and possibilities!

You can read this interesting interview that @Ussi Abuu Mnamengi  did to me, and maybe we can start a private conversation =)

Here I share the link

Hi Grace and Andrea. Thank you so much for welcoming me to the community. @Grace Alawa I've had so many great times in game reserves because every day is different. The best experience I have had so far was back in 2021, I bumped into a pack of wild dogs on foot, and I will forever remember that moment. @Andrea Fuentes Arze I will definitely follow the link and I am absolutely interested in having a conversation with you.

Laughs, I would've been scared of the pack of wild dogs. How did you react/respond to them?

Hi Freedom, welcome, your experience is fascinating
