About Oliver Webb
Hi everybody!
Currently, I am a MSc student reading Biodiversity and Conservation with an African Field Course at the University of Leeds in England. I will be completing this post-graduate degree at the end of 2021, and I'm excited and ambitious to start a career in wildlife conservation.
Having grown up in the east of Suffolk on the coast of England, near nature reserves like RSPB Minsmere, I became committed to the study of the natural environment and enjoyed spending most of my free time birdwatching.
Between leaving school and my BSc in Physical Geography, I trained and qualified as a professional safari guide for the Field Guide Association of Southern Africa (FGASA). After my undergraduate degree, I continued this FGASA training and then later worked in Laikipia, Kenya, hosting and leading safaris for a wilderness camp. I thoroughly enjoyed living and sharing peoples first experiences in the African bush, being able to witness as much Sub-Saharan African flora and fauna as possible. However, through my guiding experiences I become more intrigued with ways in which we could protect the wildlife we were viewing. This is one of the main reasons I decided to start a post-graduate education, and this is also how I have ended up here with the WildHub community.
At the moment, I am a Volunteer Ranger for RSPB St. Aidan's, a local wetlands reserve. Within this position, I enjoy talking to local community about bird identification and habitat conservation.
I'm really excited to be a part of this community and I look forward to meeting and connecting with everyone.
Cheers!
