Hello,

It feels good to have started this online training workshop and was lovely to meet lots of you in the live sessions yesterday. Thank you for all your contributions and questions.

ZOOM SET UP

Something we are always seeking to do through our online workshops is to gain all the advantages which this teaching medium gives, for example learning at flexible times, at your own pace and from anywhere in the world, while not losing the best elements of class-based teaching, for example, networking opportunities and making participants feel part of a community. The great thing now is that we are able to recreate much of the classroom experience with some brilliant technological tools.

By speaking face-to-face during the Zoom live sessions we can chat and get to know each other, while the message board offers the opportunity for people to share their stories and experiences, outside the time constraints of the live sessions, and so for us all to learn more about each other. Fostering these connections will be a great way of increasing the sense of community within the group, and could even pave the way for future collaborations, so I really encourage you to take advantage of these platforms.

For those who would like to introduce yourself on here but haven't had the chance to get your head around how to post, see here for a video about it.

WEEK 2 MATERIALS

Within the shared Google folder, there is a subfolder called Week 2, here. Within this folder, you will find one video and one pdf presentation, both about PMWC Principles. It is a short-ish one this week whilst we are all getting familiar with the setup.

NAVIGATING AROUND THE DOCUMENTS

Here is a link to the highest level folder again that all the other folders are nested within. Adding this folder to your Google Drive is the easiest way to navigate around the files. Here is a direct link to the classroom exercises Google sheet. If you havent yet seen it, here is an overview of the exercises in the pre-recorded videos along with links to the associated documents.

LIVE SESSION RECORDINGS

Each week I will add a link of the live session recording to this sheet, you may need to enter your email before you can download it. These recordings will not be shared with anyone outside of this training workshop. Any issues, please ask.

NEXT LIVE SESSIONS AND SPEED MEETUPS

The second live session will be at either 10 am BST or 6 pm BST on Monday the 14th of September. We will start on time, however, if you cant make it for the start of the session then please do join in when you can, even if just for the last half hour we will be happy to see your faces there.

It was suggested in a previous training workshop we facilitate speed meetings for you to all get to know each other better. This is completely optional! Let's do it in week two, 30 minutes before the sessions actually begin (so either 9.30 am or 5.30 pm BST). We'll randomly put you into breakout rooms so you can chat with someone you don't know and learn more about each other. We'll suggest questions, but you can chat about whatever you like!

If you have any questions please get in touch via email or on here.

Warm wishes,

Beth

WildLearning Specialist, WildTeam

I'm a WildLearning Specialist with WildTeam, a bit of a odd job title. My main role is to design, deliver and organise both our online and class-based training workshops. One of the best parts of my job is meeting other conservationists and learning about the work that they do. I really enjoy geeking out reading teaching theory and thinking about ways I can more creatively and engagingly deliver learning. Before working for WildTeam I did a PhD in invasive plants and human wildlife interactions. I find it really interesting to learn about the ways people interact with nature, both when nature is being wonderful, but also when is is being a bit annoying!
