Week 6 - SDWC 🦢

We're on to the final week!

Hello amigos,

Welcome to the final week of this Strategy Development for Wildlife Conservation online training workshop. We’ve really enjoyed getting to know you all and hope you have enjoyed the training.

There is just one video this week, here, which is split into 3 parts:

  • Applying your skills
  • Mock exam
  • Revision.

The video explains more about the mock exam, so it is a good idea to watch that first. Here is the link to the mock exam.

This document has extra revision ideas in. One of the revision ideas involves working in pairs or groups, so if this is something you would like to do I'd suggest putting a shout out on here. If it suits your revision style you could also arrange to chat with others just to chat over the materials or ask each other questions.

The exam will be on the 27th of July at either 10 am and 6 pm BST. To accommodate those who can't make those dates we will put on an extra session at 6 pm BST on the 28th of July. Unfortunately only in extenuating circumstances can we put on extra exam sessions as they require a lot of our time to run.

If you have any questions or concerns then please get in touch.

With wild wishes,

Beth 🕊️

WildLearning Specialist, WildTeam

I'm a WildLearning Specialist with WildTeam, a bit of a odd job title. My main role is to design, deliver and organise both our online and class-based training workshops. One of the best parts of my job is meeting other conservationists and learning about the work that they do. I really enjoy geeking out reading teaching theory and thinking about ways I can more creatively and engagingly deliver learning. Before working for WildTeam I did a PhD in invasive plants and human wildlife interactions. I find it really interesting to learn about the ways people interact with nature, both when nature is being wonderful, but also when is is being a bit annoying!

Please update the video for the next round as I just spent about 30 min trying to find information on where the Kahoot codes were. The video was clearly recorded prior to Wildhub being used as it says the information will be in an e-mail. Also I love that you use what you teach but by putting SDWC at the start of every file name I can't easily see what is in each file. The default setting for Google docs seems to be to have thumbnails with a shortened version of of the title so '06 SDWC v1 Online Kahoots v1'  shows as '06 SDWC v1 Online Ka' sadly missing the key piece of information! Partly my fault I should learn to change it to grid view automatically but I found finding files an issue in the PMWC course as well so it might be something worth addressing when you get the opportunity. Many thanks

Hello Eliza, oh so sorry about that. I've changed the template for the week 6 update to say include the direct link to the Kahoot document. I see your point about the file names and Google Drive, I'll chat to Lucy about changing them and I've added it to our lessons learned. I think it could be a good plan to change the names. B

I've just shortened a few of the names to remove the word 'online' as didn't think it was needed. B
