My name is Michaela (Micha for short). I'm a tropical forester by training and now a PhD student with the University of Kent. My PhD project focuses on the impacts of land use change on local rural communities in central Indonesia. Previous research projects include forest environments and food systems, and forest-freshwater fish interactios in the tropics. The heart and motivation of the research that I do is to enhance human well-being, conservation, and equity.
Previously, I worked as a researcher with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) in Indonesia. I undertook a Masters degree in Sustainable Tropical Forestry (SUTROFOR) at AgroParisTech, France, and the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. My fieldwork has taken me from the highland montane forests of Nepal all the way to the tropical rainforests of Southwest Cameroon.

Food has always been the way to my soul. I love baking, trying new dishes, and learning new recipes. Coffee comes in close second ☕

Welcome Micha and let's go for some nice food or a coffee together, as soon as the cafes will open again here in Canterbury! You may also be interested in a document posted by Lindsey Elliott on 'Doing Fieldwork in a Pandemic'. Catch up soon!
