Osvaldo - A new conservationist in action!

My name is Osvaldo Abrao!
I am Conservation biologist in early career.
I am working in Zinave National Park, an Mozambican conservation area.
I am following predators movements and activities placing camera trap, calling up, try to put collar and get much information as possible about predators
Zinave is an Conservation area in South Mozambique! This is now called the park of big five, because is the unique that present all big five after reintroduction of rhinos.
Zinave is now recovering well and present complete assembly of herbivores. The prey population is growing well and this is causing natural return of predators, such as lions.
Using camera trap, in one year we discovered a resident leopards and brown hyenas.
In addition of predators above-mentioned, we have also spotted hyenas, and other meso and small predators as serval, jackals, civets and genets.
The challenge now is try to put collars on differents individuos in each specie and continue to monitors all active collars, analyze how species are using the areas and prevent or manage conflict between predators and local community due to kills of cattle.

Zinave, is one an Conservation Area in Recover Process and now the population of prey are growing well. As result, we have natural return of predators, mainly lions. In addition of lions I am working with hyenas, leopards and other small predators.
I am very interested to learn more about predators, species conservation, restoration, how engage community in conservation and to hear more success histories in conservation around the world!
