Jade Powis

Multimedia Editor, North Devon Marine Project

About Jade Powis

I'm the multimedia editor for the North Devon Marine Project - I essentially manage the social media platforms, websites and also edit video and photography. The project I work for aims to raise awareness for ocean literacy, to reach a net zero goal for decarbonising the maritime world, starting with our local area of North Devon, England. We have pioneering technology from our crew members in electric sailing, with some exciting futures ahead! We use our green tech to sail out to MCAs, predominantly Lundy Island, to conduct scientific research into microplastics and other marine pollution and issues.

I am a trained journalist and was previously a zookeeper for many years, lastly being the head keeper for the primate section at Combe Martin Wildlife park. I turned my gaze to marine conservation when I came across the North Devon Marine Project. So quite a varied background!

I have a 1 year old son, so when I'm not working I'm mumming to the max! It's a hard balance at times but both sides are super fulfilling. Looking forward to gaining some critical skills from this course to better the work I do at land and at sea for the future of our planet and future generations, like my son.
