Katherine (Kate) Holmes is the Senior Marine Technical Advisor for the Wildlife Conservation Society’s (WCS) Indonesia Program where she draws on her global experience on issues relating to marine management, small-scale fisheries, biocultural conservation, reef ecology, and sea turtle biology. Previously, Kate was the Associate Director and Conservation Scientist for WCS’s Global Marine Conservation Program as well as the Director for WCS’s Papua New Guinea Marine Program. Kate worked for the American Museum of Natural History’s Center for Biodiversity and Conservation for nearly a decade during which time she conducted biocultural research in Vanuatu, documenting language use and cultural practices associated with the marine environment; collaborated on research projects at Palmyra Atoll in the Central Pacific studying local sea turtle populations and coral community dynamics; and supported a multi-disciplinary project investigating marine reserve network design in The Bahamas. Kate holds an M.Sc. in Biology from McGill University and is a Visiting Scientist of the American Museum of Natural History’s Center for Biodiversity and Conservation.
