About Lia Nahomi Kajiki
I am a Brazilian Ornithologist with a PhD in Ecology and National Geographic Explorer. My interest in birds started as a child when I was keen to understand how they communicated with each other. This curiosity about birds’ songs turned into a passion for every matter about their natural history. I have collaborated and worked with different research groups and companies across Brazil. My main research interests involve the evolution of sociality and social networks, sexual selection, and how birds' behaviour is affected by environmental changes. During my PhD, I coordinated an educational conservation outreach project with special needs and regular students from low-income families. Since then, I developed a strong interest in creative solutions to connect people and nature as an effective way to work towards biodiversity conservation. I am currently willing to leave academia for a while and change careers to directly work with biodiversity conservation. My main expertise includes team coordination, fundraising, training and collaboration development.
