About Manon Mispiratceguy
Wildlife conservationist interested in the sustainable management of biodiversity and human-wildlife coexistence.
I believe that the greatest challenge in biodiversity conservation lies in reconciling global development goals with wildlife and protected area management. Fortress conservation has shown time and time again that the needs of surrounding communities cannot be ignored. We need sustainability in conservation, else we will not succeed.
This belief stems from a lifetime spent working and living in sub-Saharan Africa, from Kenya to Rwanda, from Botswana to Namibia. My post-graduate work on human-wildlife conflict in Rwanda reinforced this conviction: successful, sustainable conservation outcomes can only come with the full participation of people living with or near wildlife. A participatory approach will allow conservationists to make sustainable decisions, and will greatly facilitate the implementation of conservation projects.
