About Mariela Porras
I'm a Tropical Biologist from Costa Rica, passionate for wildlife, but always concerned about the different threats that it faces.
Throughout my professional career, I have participated in wildlife monitoring projects and habitat assessments, particularly with mammals. Additionally, I have developed expertise in environmental education, as I believe it is key to biodiversity conservation.
Currently, I work as a field officer for the People Program at the non-governmental organization Macaw Recovery Network, where we work towards a future in which macaws and their ecosystems thrive and coexist with local communities. Through the People Program, we aim to help communities learn to coexist with macaws and other species through environmental education.
Previously, I volunteered with the non-governmental organization Gente y Fauna in its Team Jaguar program, which seeks solutions to human-wildlife conflict issues between humans and felines. This experience helped me understand the importance of working with communities to achieve our conservation goals.
