Hello there!
I am a UK-based bat conservation worker, with seven years experience in bat ecology work and bat care. Work at BCT includes working with roost-owners and contacts to prevent the disturbance and destruction of roosts, and improving negative perceptions of bats within the general public. I currently hold position of Special Point of Contact for the Wildlife Crime Project on the BCT Helpline, and aim to greatly expand my knowledge and experience in Wildlife Crime Prevention in this role. In my role as BCT Bat Care Network Co-ordinator, I have worked to improve the welfare of bats in rehabilitation by creating minimum standards for bat care on the network. I am also working on several smaller projects to improve bat welfare in rehabilitation, such as facilitating CPD training for veterinary professionals in bat care and improving and expanding resources available to bat care volunteers. I am on the committee for Avon Bat Group, regularly taking part in trapping and bat box surveys. I have some experience with African bats, having spent 2 weeks in Zimbabwe trapping bats at Imire Rhino Conservation Reserve as part of a research project. I have recently spent 4 weeks in Queensland, AU, volunteering at the Tolga Bat Hospital, which specializes in rehabilitating flying foxes. From this I have a special interest in flying foxes and would love to work promoting their conservation and changing beliefs about them, as well as working to find solutions to the biggest threats facing spectacled flying foxes in Queensland, including barbed wire fencing and tick paralysis.
I have joined WildHub to take part in their Project Management course, to improve my working methods as a project co-ordinator in my current role and in potential future roles. I'm excited to join the community, meet some other conservationists and to utilise the resources that WildHub provide!
I am an Ecologist by training. My research interests have focused on : Relations between protected areas and local communities; Wildlife conservation; Community Building; Environmental governance ; Conflict management ; Climate change.
