Wildlife conservation has always been close to my heart since young, therefore, I pursued a Bachelor degree in Zoology and started volunteering for several NGOs and social enterprises that focus on wildlife conservation, which both were instrumental to landing me my first job in the field as a naturalist at The Datai Langkawi.

As a naturalist, as well as the supporting member of Wildlife For The Future, a pillar under The Datai Pledge to conserve the flora and fauna around the resort, I had the opportunities to deeply understand the environmental issues on Langkawi island, and have been able to participate in initiatives such as the installation of artificial hornbill nest box and camera traps, as well as engage with the local authorities and NGOs for collaborations.

However, my experiences in the field have also instilled a deep understanding in me that sustainable conservation of wildlife involves not only the protection of wildlife, but also working plans that include the sustainable practices, protection of habitats and ecosystems, engagement of local communities, partnerships with local authorities and increasing the awareness amongst the community, especially the youth. Therefore, I am eager to assume my new role as The Datai Pledge manager.

The Datai Pledge is a private trust under The Datai Langkawi. As a manager, I strive towards ensuring the vision and missions of the trust are embodied and displayed in all projects running under the four pillars: Youth, Pure, Wildlife and Fish for the future. We aim to improve the wellbeing of the surrounding nature, flora and fauna, and local community through a wide array of progammes involving our local NGO and social enterprise partners.

I believe this training course will be of much use to horn my management skills, allowing me to manage the projects more effectively and efficiently.
