Hi Anyang, it is hard to know how to guide you without understanding exactly which type of biodiversity targets you are working with, how much funding you are looking for. Take a look at the link Adam gave to be able to figure out the type of grant you are looking for and examples of grants on the grant worksheet mentioned in the manual. I recommend taking the course (there are free places available via the bursaries) to help you focus your search and write better proposals.
In the meantime, here are a few examples of grants possibly available:
1. JRS Biodiversity Foundation: This foundation has a history of funding various projects related to biodiversity conservation in African countries. While the specific focus areas and grant amounts vary, they have funded projects in areas like biodiversity monitoring, research, and capacity development in national parks. The grant durations also vary, typically spanning 18 to 36 months with varying amounts of funding.
2. WWF’s Environmental and Social Impact Grant: This grant focuses on enhancing capacities to address environmental and social impact assessment capacity building needs, with an emphasis on local communities and local practitioners in Kenya, Tanzania, and Madagascar. Proposals should target diverse audiences involved in addressing social and environmental issues associated with conservation and development initiatives.
3. ZAA Conservation Grants: The Zoological Association of America offers grants for conservation projects for globally threatened or data deficient species. Projects eligible include specific conservation and research measures that directly contribute to the survival of a species in its natural range. Grant requests may range from $1,000 to $5,000. Proposals should be five pages or fewer and include various project details.
4. Regenerative Fund for Nature: This fund supports projects with a focus on regenerative agriculture practices and offers substantial funding ranging from €100,000 to €500,000 over a 3 to 5-year period. The eligibility criteria include not-for-profit organizations with a mission aligned to the purpose of the Fund.
5. Jana Robeyst Trust Fund: This fund provides financial resources to small non-profit organizations and individuals for conservation research in Sub-Saharan Africa. Projects related to the conservation of forest elephants have been prioritized in the past.
6. Wildlife Conservation Society Grants - Research Fellowship Program: This program offers grants to support individual field research projects with a clear application to the conservation of threatened wildlife. The program aims to build capacity for the next generation of conservationists.
7. National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF): They offer various grants for wildlife and habitat conservation. Some of the upcoming deadlines include 03/07/2024 for the Desert Tortoise Recovery Partnership, 03/12/2024 for the Northern Great Plains Program, and others in early April 2024 .
8. National Geographic Society: They offer Level I Grants up to USD $20,000 for projects up to one year in length. Level II Grants can provide funding of $50,000 – $60,000 for select projects.
9. Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation: This foundation offers several grant categories, including Community Grants and Habitat Acquisition Grants, with application deadlines in March and April 2024 .
10. EKCT Wildlife & Environmental Conservation Grants: This trust considers applications for various conservation-related activities, including wildlife and environmental conservation. Deadlines for different grant sizes vary across the year .
