About the Conference:

Asian elephant (Elephas maximus), has been listed as a Schedule I species under the Indian Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and recognized as a National Heritage Animal of India. Asian elephants have been facing elevated risks due to the fragmentation of natural habitats and human developmental activities, leading to negative interactions with people who share space and resources with elephants. There is an ever-growing wealth of research and data about the Asian elephant and its management within the range countries. Sharing this information with relevant stakeholders is more important now than ever before.

The International Conference on Human-Elephant Conflict is a pioneering effort by the Karnataka Forest Department to bring together Forest Department Officials, Academic Researchers and Civil Society Organizations across the country and abroad to foster knowledge-sharing and cross-learning opportunities, advocating evidence-based and inclusive approaches to cultivate coexistence between humans and elephants. The event aims to bring together expertise on Asian Elephants to identify solutions and approaches to managing negative interactions between people and elephants, focusing on the Asian elephant range countries and states.
