International Macaque Week 2025

International Macaque Week (IMW) is the first week of May. The theme this year is: #RespectTheirNature. It's a great opportunity to promote awareness of, and empathy for, these fantastic primates, and to let the world know about your work to protect and conserve them.

International Macaque Week (IMW), which takes place annually over the first week of May, is a great opportunity for macaque-enthusiastic NGOs and others, including sanctuaries, zoos and educational institutions, to promote awareness of, and empathy for, one of the world’s most heavily persecuted groups of primates, and to let the world know about their work to protect them.

We've prepared a series of free, downloadable materials for you to use and customize (contact us about this), for your macaque-related work!

There are educational materials, a social media pack, holding hashtag signs and pledge frames for campaign engagement, Zoom virtual backgrounds, and 25 macaque species illustrations ready for use in your designs!

I have some experience with captive gibbons in a rehabilitation centre in Peninsular Malaysia. I am interested in the 4Rs of primate conservation: Research, Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Release. I would also like to incorporate the idea of ‘Reforest’ using primates into the 4Rs – making it 4R + 1R.

I have prepared a research proposal for my Master’s study on “hormonal associations of allomaternal care” and I believe these findings can inform primate welfare and management of the rescued orphans (from the pet trade, etc.) by 1) increasing orphans’ survival rates, 2) increasing efficiency in rehab, and 3) increasing success rates post-release.

I am currently looking for a(n) mentorship/advisor to support my proposal and supervise the research.
