A warm welcome, Grace! We are so happy that you have joined our team of WildHub Community Advocates! Could you perhaps tell us a little bit more about the (conservation) work you do and your background? Thanks!
Thank you Thirza. I'm glad to be part of the team. My background is Ecology and Environmental Biology; I worked on farm birds in different agricultural landscapes for my PhD.
The conservation work I do is quite enormous but I take it one chunk at a time. First thing that tops the list is Advocacy/awareness/sensitization; the level of poverty in my Country has caused the people to see any animal as meat, mangrove banking as a livelihood, overfishing, pollution, etc. Periodically, I carry out walks, workshops, training to educate the people and public on the need to protect our Biodiversity. I'm also actively involved in policy-making, a few days ago the Climate Change Bill was passed in my State (Rivers State). I conduct Environmental Impact Assessments, I interact with community people, farmers, wildlife poachers, CBOs, NGOs, on a regular basis in a bid to listen to the numerous challenges they face and proffer solutions to as many as I can. Where I can't meet their needs, I reach out to other colleagues and NGOs to help out.
@Lara Reden : a new Community Advocate team member for you to meet :) An introduction call will follow in the new year!
Looking forward to it!
Same here@ Lara Reden
