Seeking a Remote Conservation Volunteering Opportunity

I’m a veterinarian and team leader seeking practical wildlife conservation experience. I’m especially interested in remote or local opportunities in project support, research, M&E, stakeholder engagement, data and operations, where I can learn from experienced professionals.

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a volunteering opportunity that will help me gain practical experience in the operational and project-support side of wildlife conservation.

My professional background is in veterinary medicine, regulatory operations and team leadership, and I have completed WildTeam training in Project Planning, Project Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Grant Writing for Wildlife Conservation. I am also working towards completing the Monitoring and Evaluation course — which would complete WildTeam’s five-course pathway to becoming a Wildlife Conservation Professional. (So apparently, I’m one certificate away from making it official! 😄)

While this has given me a strong theoretical foundation, I’m very conscious that theory is not the same as practical conservation experience. What I’m looking for now is an opportunity where I can learn by working alongside experienced conservation professionals and gradually understand how projects and organisations operate in practice.

I would be particularly interested in a volunteer role involving some combination of:

• project or programme administration
• organising meetings, events or team activities
• maintaining records, databases or SharePoint resources
• monitoring project information, data or KPIs
• supporting reports and documentation
• stakeholder, volunteer or partner communication
• coordinating schedules, resources or travel
• supporting invoices, expenses or other operational processes
• research and project support

I’m not looking exclusively for a desk-based role, and I would welcome opportunities to gain appropriate field exposure too. However, I’m particularly interested in roles where I can develop professional conservation-management skills using a laptop, systems, data and administrative processes rather than primarily manual conservation work.

My longer-term goal is to build a career in conservation project/programme management, monitoring and evaluation, operations and ultimately conservation leadership.

Because of my current work schedule, remote opportunities would be ideal. I’m based in Northampton, UK, so I would also be very interested in suitable in-person or hybrid opportunities within roughly 30 minutes of Northampton.

Most importantly, I’m looking for somewhere I can genuinely learn, contribute and grow. I don’t expect to arrive knowing everything; I’m looking for a supportive opportunity where I can apply my existing professional skills while developing real conservation-sector experience.

If you know of an organisation, project or team that might be a good fit, I would really appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you!
