Biology Consultant/Independent Researcher, Freelance/Independent

About Anibal Ruben Armendaris

I have a strong background in wildlife and ecological conservation, wildlife medicine, research, publications, literature synthesis, and project management. My passion is to continue contributing to projects, research, and programs that promote biodiversity, conservation efforts, disease mitigation, sustainable and ethical practices, the advancement of science, and foster a more responsible connection between humans and ecosystems. I believe in the One Health approach to conservation and its strong focus on community based initiatives along with a strong emphasis on biodiversity preservation are necessary for project success.

I am currently an independent consultant/researcher, recently focused on analyzing illegal wildlife trafficking incidents, human-wildlife conflict, wildlife disease mitigation, and facilitating project support for reserves/wildlife parks, biodiversity NGOs, and researchers. I am currently working to help launch a large multifaceted project within the Amazonian corridor of Ecuador. In early 2025 I collaborated with the Institute for Ecology and Conservation of Nature (IECN) executing a broad range biodiversity monitoring project within Pu Mat national park for an ongoing molecular, pathogenic, bio-banking and analysis of herpetofaunal populations found in Vietnam. I was able to help them integrate updated biosecurity measures and expand their disease pathogen testing.

In my most recent office role I spent a significant amount of time conducting audits and risk assessments (animal sourcing, emerging disease threats, etc.), collecting and analyzing data, managing projects, developing provocative and innovative, informational/educational content, and synthesizing scientific publications for a variety of stakeholders. Measurement, auditing, analysis, and evaluation of programs to ensure compliance is something I routinely did. The purpose was to provide relevant information to engage continued support from stakeholders in efforts to conduct more sustainable and responsible and ethical business practices, sourcing of materials and animals.

In my previous career I was involved in supporting the development of in country projects/initiatives and facilitating active field operations and logistics on a variety of projects for domestic and foreign government entities.
