Hello everyone ...
Trust you are well and keeping safe. It is so lovely to be a part of this Conservation Catalyst cohort.
I am an environment professional with over 20 years in the non-profit sector having worked with some of the leading institutions/organisations of our sector. Currently, I head a Delhi based environmental charity – Global Foundation for Advancement of Environment & Human Wellness. Our work encompasses a wide range of issues - water resources (conservation, restoration of water bodies & aquifer recharge), climate action/ low-carbon energy solutions for cooking, heating and drying, building climate resilience at the community level, sustainable livelihood, SDGs and environmental capacity enhancement. Global Foundation has been members of FAO Mountain Partnership, UN Global Compact, Future of Tourism Coalition, IUCN #NatureForAll campaign, to name a few.
I am a Climate Reality Leader and have been members of IUCN World Commission on Protected Areas, ONet Facilitation Team of IPBES, Responsible Tourism Society of India, International Council for Circular Economy, CoalitionWild Global Mentorship Programme, IUCN Tourism & PAs Specialist Group to name a few. And have been on the Jury of Asia’s largest Environment Film Fest and Awards CMS VATAVARAN. As a capacity development specialist, I have trained over 10,000 teachers, students, NGO professionals and corporate executives on key environmental issues over the years.
Recipient of SABERA - Social And Business Enterprise Responsible Award | Green Future Leadership Award | ICT for Mountain Dev Award | Swachhta Satark Nagarik | Change Maker of Assam Award, I speak regularly on environment and sustainability issues across various forums globally and have been featured in World Water Summit, OECD – Paris, Smart Cities India Expo, IPBES, Goethe-Institut, Trentino School of Management – Italy, Delhi University, HSBC and Global Sustainable Development Summit.
Born in Assam, a state in the Northeastern part of India, one of the most biodiverse and species rich regions of the world, for me, it all began with bird watching, wildlife rescue and then co-founding of a local NGO back in the nineties while still in the school and junior college. I remained stuck to this cause as a volunteer and enthusiast before taking the plunge to make it a fulltime profession in the year 2001 right after completing my master’s degree in Environmental Science. And later, while still in the job, I got my PhD degree in 2009 for my work on tourism related factors affecting biodiversity. I have been an avid birder (life-lister), self-taught nature photographer and a voracious reader.
For my volunteering work during the Covid-19 pandemic (including devastating floods in 2019-20) and for driving multiple humanitarian aid initiatives across Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam and Bihar, I have received wide appreciation from various quarters besides getting recognized as a Corona warrior on multiple forums.
I look forward to working closely with everyone in the group and learn from your experience. Thank you.
