Le Tan Quy earned his B.Sc. degree in Biology from Ho Chi Minh City University of Science in 2019. He is currently a researcher in the Department of Zoology at Southern Institute of Ecology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. His research interests include the diversity and abundance of ungulate species in Vietnamese tropical and coastal forests and their tolerance to human disturbance. The research aims to provide policymakers and conservationists insightful descriptions as to how to best conserve these animals in Vietnam. In a country where anti-discriminatory snaring has resulted in a situation called "empty forest" syndrome, he is keen on community-based approaches to tackle illegal wildlife trading and therefore, ensure sustainable livelihoods for indigenous people.

Since 2017, he has been working on rediscovering the silvered-backed mouse-deer, a species lost to science for nearly three decades. Further actions have been under development with his involvement to assess the species’ population and ecology in the wild. Starting from 2019, he has been involved in a collaboration project between Save Vietnam’s Wildlife, a local NGO based in Vietnam, and a M.Sc. student from the University of Rhode Island, U.S.A. aiming to better understand the impact of anthropogenic disturbances on terrestrial and arboreal mammals in Cat Tien national park. He is also active on university campus to recruit biology students to engage in mammal conservation efforts in Vietnam.
