I am an ecologist with a B.S. from the University of California, Santa Cruz. I live in Watsonville, California in the United States (just south of Santa Cruz and San Francisco). I am currently searching for a job in western Oregon. The majority of my research experience is with small mammals from California, including mice from the genus Peromyscus. I completed a bachelor's thesis studying the range of the Santa Cruz kangaroo rat (Dipodomys venustus venustus). I worked for six months for the Resource Conservation District in California as a monitoring biologist on the Salinas River. We were working to control invasive Arundo donax plants and to control flooding by mowing overflow channels. I worked for nine months as a senior park aide for California State Parks in Santa Cruz County. I have some experience with ArcGIS from taking a university course, using it for my thesis, and using it to process data and produce maps for the Resource Conservation District. I am interested in gaining experience in 1) researching birds, mammals, and plants 2) land management such as ecosystem restoration and trail maintenance and 3) relevant computer software such as R Programming and QGIS. I am also interested in making connections with fellow ecologists in Oregon. I enjoy hiking, camping, reading, cooking, and making herbal forest tea. I also enjoy rock climbing and backpacking, although I am a newbie to both.

Student, Graduate Research Associate, Colorado State University, Salazar Center for North American Conservation
I am a current graduate student at Colorado State University, studying to earn my Masters in Conservation Leadership Through Learning. I have a BS in Biology- Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation from the University of Washington. I currently work with the Salazar Center for North American Conservation as a graduate research associate.
Prior to graduate school I worked as a naturalist and educator at the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies to provide environmental education to individuals of diverse ages and backgrounds. I have conducted research in forestry, marine settings, and sustainable food purchasing. I am involved with 350 Colorado as an intern and serving on the northern Colorado Leadership Council, to support efforts of reducing our fossil fuel consumption.
I am passionate about landscape level conservation and hope to solve future environmental problems related to preserving large areas of land while maintaining human livelihoods. I am particularly interested in the intersectionality of policy, environmental science, and the social sciences. I believe conservation cannot happen without deep consideration of human needs and livelihoods, and that the path forward involves widespread collaboration.
Hello, I am a graduate student at Colorado State University getting a Masters in Conservation Leadership. I have had a career in environmental science field work for 7 years before returning to get my Masters degree. I am looking forward to learning more in this training course.
My Name is Pete and this is literally my first step into a career in conservation. I'm usually based in the Peak District (UK) and my background is in the Outdoor industry; having done a BA in Outdoor Studies in the Lake District (UK) back in 2009 and worked primarily as a mountain bike guide and expedition leader ever since. In 2012, my wife and I set off on a 20,000km bike ride form the UK to New Zealand which we completed over 2 years and since getting back I have set up and run my own company 'Adventure Pedlars', a not-for-profit organisation which aims to facilitate meaningful experiences in nature through cycle-touring and bikepacking. I also work for a youth expedition company taking teenagers on developmental expeditions all over the world.
However, now I'm at somewhat of a crossroads in my career, having recently had two small children, Covid putting the brakes on overseas work and, recognising the urgency of the climate & biodiversity crisis, I now feel a strong pull towards applying myself to the conservation and environmental sectors. As such, I've just signed up for a part-time MSc in 'Sustainability & Behaviour change' at the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) and I'm in the process of applying for a Project Management traineeship with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. I also hope this course will set me up on the right track and inform my next steps..
As you might be able to tell, I have a passion for all things adventurous (especially if it's on a bike!) and I love to share this with others. I guess my aim is to eventually find a way of linking adventure and conservation, using experiences in the outdoors to foster behaviour change towards the environment but I'm also excited to see what this new direction throws at me!
