Hello everyone, my name is Petra, a recent graduate in wildlife management and tourism studies (BSc honours) with the University of Namibia. Throughout my studies I delved into fascinating world of wildlife and its conservation, while also gaining insights into the dynamic field of tourism.  I am hopping and striving to further my studies in the field of wildlife forensics if a post graduate opportunity arises.

In addition to wanting to pursue my studies, I am eager to jumpstart my career and contribute to conservation efforts, whether it be through research, community engagement, sustainable tourism practices or entrepreneurship. One of my favourite aspects of conservation is volunteering, I enjoy participating in workshops and training programs that allow me to continuously learn and explore new routes within this field. For the past two years I have had the privilege of volunteering in several different conservation-oriented projects.

I am based in Namibia, a country known for its rich wildlife and diverse ecosystems. I am fortunate to have access to such an incredible environment, and it has fuelled my desire to actively take part in its conservation. in addition to that, I live in an area surrounded by national parks and conservancies, which serves as a constant reminder of the incredible biodiversity we must protect. The abundance of natural beauty has truly ignited my passion for conservation, as I witness firsthand the importance of preserving these precious ecosystems. For instance, I have been an active member of a communal conservancy, whereby natural resources have been used to improve the livelihood of the communities.

In addition, I am currently working as a research assistant in Applied ethnography, transforming the lives of school dropouts’ youth, through engaging them in ethnomusicological activities and empowering them in natural recourse management. Furthermore, I have been involved in research on value addition of natural resources.

Outside of my work and studies, I have a great love for visiting new places & mostly camping, being immersed in nature, sleeping under the stars, and waking up to sounds of wildlife.

I joined wild hub because I believe in the power of collaboration and knowledge sharing, I hope to establish connections with professionals in the conservation field. I am eager to learn from their experiences, expand my network, and find potential mentors who can guide me in my career journey. I am equally keen to share my experiences with other members of wild hub community.

Thank you.
