Innovation & Partnership Strategist, Earth Advocacy Youth

2nd year LL.M. student in “Law and Sustainable Development” – curriculum in environmental law and policy - at the University of Milan. I previously graduated in International and Diplomatic Sciences at the University of Trieste. I'm currently performing an internship at the Adaptation Division of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). I'm focusing my action on adaptation support needs of developing countries in preparation of the Global Stocktake (GST). Meanwhile, I'm working for Earth Advocacy Youth, an international for-impact NGO in the international environmental legal field, operating in promoting the Rights of Nature and Earth Jurisprudence. After collaborating for 5 years with MSOI – United Nations Youth Association of Italy, through which I passionately promoted international cooperation and the 2030 Agenda, I'm now volunteering for the Corps Saint Lazarus International - Italy, an NGO focalized on civil protection and disaster risk reduction.

Melissa Davie

Soil Scientist, Fera

Hello, I'm Mel and I'm from the Calder valley in Yorkshire, UK. I have a BIG love for Nature and a strong desire to contribute to positive changes towards a harmonious future for both people and planet. I am a biochemical scientist, artist and Nature enthusiast :)  I am just about to finish my MPhil studies in the Biochemistry of Natural Products at the John Innes Centre. My research project was focused on antibiotics produced by bacteria. I also have an MChem degree in Chemistry from the University of York.  I believe in the importance of helping people connect to Nature as well as themselves and each other in order for us to forge the right path forwards. I have been the Vice Pres of the UEA Mountaineering committee for 2 years and have loved helping others experience the joy of getting outdoors together. I also volunteer with Norwich FarmShare, a community-owned farm (CSA).  Communication and story-telling are key to help people see our vision of the future and inspire hope and action to get there. I have volunteered engaging with the public via science communication and outreach and also create artwork by illustration. Following the completion of my MPhil, I am hoping to volunteer whilst travelling to give back whilst learning about all the things I am interested in; rewilding, sustainable agriculture, ecology, art and communication. I hope I can work out how best to apply my skills for my future career along the way!

Director General, Hope in the Nature

I recently completed a PhD thesis at the Faculty of Science, University of Kisangani and conduct many researches on Eastern DRC forests on Biodiversity, Ecology, Environment and development. I lead a youth-led startup focused on agrobusiness and environment, we produce both food and organic fertilizer using organic waste. This decreases human-driven pressure on biodiversity.

Kaylan

Director of Conservation Planning, Ducks Unlimited Inc

My work at Ducks Unlimited Inc. focuses on designing and implementing research to guide the conservation and management of wetlands, grasslands, and waterfowl in the seven-state Great Plains Region of the United States (CO, MT, SD, ND, KS, NE, WY). Some of my past collaborative research ventures have included the assessment of energy development impacts on breeding waterfowl abundance, creation of a cross-border prioritization tool, a targeted return-on-investment analysis, and an assessment of the socioeconomic drivers of landowner decision-making. This position has also provided me the opportunity to facilitate the creation of an experiential internship program with a local university for undergraduate students interested in wetlands or waterfowl. Finally, I'm simultaneously working on my PhD via an external program offered through James Cook University. My doctoral work closely ties in with my responsibilities at Ducks Unlimited Inc. as I'm updating a regional conservation plan for the organization.
