About Brittany Sawrey
My passion is to help conservationists maintain their resiliency and mental and emotional health throughout their incredibly important work. My background includes animal husbandry in the USA and Namibia, as well as a MSc in Conservation Science from Imperial College London that included research in Mauritius. I am currently pursuing a Master in Counseling at Arizona State University as a therapist-in-training, and researching how trauma and social support affect conservationists. Hi all, excited to be a part of WildHub! My background is first in conservation education and animal husbandry, primarily working with large carnivores and with elephants. I spent a summer at the Cheetah Conservation Fund, completed my MSc in Conservation Science at Imperial College London, and did my thesis research in Mauritius. Now I'm wrapping up a Master in Counseling degree here in the U.S., and conducting research on vicarious trauma in conservationists. I know from my own experiences and from talking to so many colleagues that the mental burden we take on as conservationists can be so weighty, and can come with all kinds of side effects. I hope to use this research to create more tools and supports, and keep conservationists healthy and in the fight for our planet!
