Seeking Advice and Job Opportunities in Conservation
Hello everyone!
My name is Tomás Pinheiro, I'm 26 years old and from Portugal. I’m passionate about biodiversity conservation, and I’m writing this post to share a bit about my journey and ask for advice on how I can improve my job search in the field and potential opportunities that you might know of.
I hold a master’s degree in Biodiversity, Genetics, and Evolution from the University of Porto, where I developed my thesis on the development of kelp reforestation methods. This work allowed me to gain valuable skills in marine ecology and habitat restoration, an area I’m truly passionate about.
I also had the opportunity to volunteer and later work for a year at the Iberian Lynx Breeding Center (CNRLI), a center dedicated to the conservation and breeding of the Iberian lynx in Portugal. During that time, I worked closely with a dedicated team focused on animal welfare, helping caretakers and veterinarians ensure the animals received the best care possible. This experience solidified my desire to continue working in conservation.
However, I’ve been facing significant challenges in my job search, especially here in Portugal, where opportunities in the conservation field are quite limited. I’ve applied to several positions, but the competition is high, and many roles require very specific skill sets.
If anyone has any suggestions on how I can improve my job search strategy or knows of any opportunities, particularly on an international level, I would be incredibly grateful. I’ll also leave my CV attached for anyone who might want to take a closer look. Any advice would be much appreciated! Any advice would be much appreciated!
Thank you all for your time, and I look forward to learning from your experiences.
