I am a skilled professional with eight years of experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, Research & Learning (MERL) for USAID-funded projects. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Demography with Economics and a Master of Science in Public Health, both from the University of Zambia. Currently, I oversee MERL activities for the USAID funded project to achieve landscape outcomes and ensure compliance with USAID requirements. My role involves managing metrics dashboards, overseeing research and data collection, and sharing lessons learned for adaptive management. I am proficient in statistical packages (SPSS, Stata, Epi-data, SMARTCARE) and Microsoft Office Suite, and excel in multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural team settings.

With a master degree in Protected Areas Management, I am working in the wildlife conservation unit as part of my role at APASAT NGO. My role focus on data collection on wildlife, field assessments, human wildlife coexistence and local community’s engagement in conservation efforts. This includes project management, proposal writing for funding and team supervision. I am currently leading a project on Human-Wildlife Coexistence, specifically addressing coexistence challenges between communities and the Critically Endangered Red-bellied Monkey (Cercopithecus erythrogaster erythrogaster) in the Biosphere Reserve of Ouémé. I am leading the team to conduct primate population monitoring, assess the interactions between local populations and primates, undertake coexistence strategies through environmental education, alternative livelihoods, and non-lethal deterrents and enhance community involvement in conservation approaches.

I am a recent graduate from the Wildlife Research and Training Institute, with a passion for conservation and a diverse set of skills honed through hands-on experience.  During my attachment program at Kisite Mpunguti Marine Park and my volunteer work with Reefolution Trust, I have gained invaluable expertise in:  Coral Restoration: Engaging in coral planting, nursery maintenance, and out-planting to rejuvenate marine ecosystems. Marine Debris Cleanups: Organizing and participating in cleanups to protect our oceans. Community Engagement: Facilitating group discussions and outreach programs to foster local involvement in conservation efforts. Data Collection and Entry: Gathering and managing data crucial for research and conservation projects. Human-Wildlife Conflict Resolution: Developing strategies to mitigate conflicts between humans and wildlife.  My interests are deeply rooted in:  Wildlife Protection: Advocating for and implementing measures to safeguard endangered species. Environmental Education: Sharing knowledge and raising awareness through my Twitter (X) page. Habitat Restoration: Participating in projects aimed at restoring damaged ecosystems. Community Engagement: Collaborating with local communities to develop sustainable conservation strategies. Policy and Advocacy: Working on policies to support and enhance conservation efforts.  While I currently possess a broad range of skills, I am eager to specialize further and make a significant impact in the conservation community. Being part of the Wild Hub would provide me with the perfect opportunity to refine my expertise and contribute meaningfully to global conservation efforts.  

I have 8 years working experience in Sustainable Forestry, Fisheries, Wildlife Management and general Community based natural resources management (CBNRM) working in the North Luangwa National Park of Zambia. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Wildlife management and Biology and a Master’s degree in Climate Change and sustainable development. Currently, I am supporting the WeForest Zambia team in the implementation of the Luangwa livelihoods and conservation Activity project based in Mpika, Muchinga Province. I am based in the North Luangwa National Park Landscape, North Eastern Zambia.

My name is Huruma David Mwasomola. I have a background in Wildlife Management, and I’m passionate about environmental conservation, research, and promoting human-wildlife coexistence. Over the years, I’ve gained experience working on various conservation projects focusing on wildlife monitoring, mangrove restoration, biodiversity surveys, and community outreach programs. My work has involved data collection using tools like Kobo and ODK, GIS mapping, monitoring and evaluation, and engaging with local communities to support sustainable conservation efforts. I am a vet assistant recently joined a game resort and have gotten some interest in wildlife and conservation. Have started learning about wildlife and conservation and want to learn more. In this new journey i have taken i have fallen in love with giraffe and want to take keen interest in conserving them I have zero experience in conservation but i come with 100% interest to learn😊

I am a dedicated conservation scientist interested in bridging gaps between science, conservation, and policy to benefit wildlife and people. With 20 years of experience across career sectors, I have collaborated in diverse working groups to develop science-based conservation strategies that support biodiversity and stakeholder needs. I specialize in the impacts of climate change and habitat loss on wildlife and ecosystem health. My work on migratory birds as bioindicators of changing seasonality in northern forests in the USA has informed critical initiatives like “Foresters for the Birds” and clean energy policies addressing the climate crisis. In the California Channel Islands, I led recovery efforts with a wildlife non-profit for threatened and endangered species impacted by habitat degradation from introduced species, resulting in species delisting. I taught field courses in sustainable natural resource management in New Zealand that incorporated Indigenous practices. As Director of an undergraduate field research program, I trained the next generation of conservation leaders.  I earned a Ph.D. in behavioral ecology, an M.S. in zoology, and a B.S. in zoology. My postdoctoral work spanned Southeast Asia and the Caribbean, enhancing my regional knowledge of biodiversity hotspots.
