I am I am Ann Kuria, a degree degree graduate in Environmental Studies & Community development which closely aligns with the WILDTEAM’S focus on conservation. The degree has equipped me with a strong understanding in ecological principles, environmental policy and sustainable practices. It has also equipped me with knowledge and skills necessary for protecting and restoring nature, encouraging a harmonious interaction between human beings and the environment.                       I joined WildHub because I have a particular interest in project management, particularly in how it can be applied in conservation initiatives. Project management is crucial for successfully implementing conservation projects, from planning and execution to monitoring and evaluation. I’m excited about the opportunity to leverage my skills in project management to drive impactful conservation efforts.  Some of my experience in conservation in Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya lies in: •Lion tracking •Monitoring grass species composition and biomass status.        •Monitoring population structure of threatened herbivore species, specifically the Grevy's zebra and Beisa oryx.  •Monitoring population dynamics of select predators particularly the cheetah, lions and hyenas.      •Mapping active and old abandoned cattle bomas around the conservancy. I am keen to apply project management principles to streamline processes, manage resources efficiently, and achieve measurable outcomes in conservation projects. By integrating my passion for environmental sustainability with my project management skills, I aim to contribute to creating and executing effective conservation strategies that benefit both the environment and the communities involved.

Fresh graduate, Makerere University

I have just completed my bachelors degree of Geographical Sciences from Makerere University Kampala, Uganda with a second class upper honors (CGPA 4.17). I specialized in physical geography with key modules of Geographical Information Systems (GIS)/Remote sensing, Environmental disaster management, Geomorphology, ecosystems science and Earth Sciences. My research dissertation was titled "Analyzing the implications of wetland degradation on livelihoods in the river Rwizi middle catchment area, South Western Uganda". I am interested in advancing my academics by doing a masters in Environment management field and further to a PhD.  I have also just founded a non-government organization called Green-nut Foundation which is aimed at contributing to efforts in environmental restoration and conservation. It has been certified to commence its activities in April 2024. I expect to connect with experts, professionals and mentors here at WildHub and this will open for me more opportunities like partnerships, funding, scholarships, learning, internships and leadership development.

Hello, I am Shahid Ahmad, a passionate ecologist with a focus on biodiversity conservation and ecological resilience. My research bridges the fields of computational modeling and field ecology, with a particular emphasis on understanding the impacts of climate change on wildlife and ecosystems. I have a strong foundation in species distribution modeling, machine learning, and habitat suitability assessment, which I utilize to develop evidence-based conservation strategies. My work spans various ecosystems, from high-altitude ungulate species in the Himalayas to coastal ecosystem restoration projects focusing on seagrass beds.  My commitment to integrating ecological research with policy development drives my contributions to global conservation efforts.

Teacher Assistant, Organization for tropical studies

I am an Ecologist deeply passionate about understanding the behavioural strategies small mammals use to survive in seasonally food-restricted environments. I completed my Master’s degree in Behavioral Ecology at the University of Witwatersrand, where my research was on the behavior of bush Karoo rats (Otomys unisulcatus) in Namaqualand, South Africa. My study focused on the "plantong" these rodents collect, exploring whether this behavior is an adaptive response to seasonal harshness or simply a by-product of their foraging activities. This research was driven by my desire to uncover how these food specialists manage to thrive in the challenging conditions of the Succulent Karoo semi-deserts. I have also touched base on a few things: looking at how acacia trees influence grass species around them, using biocontrol agent for plants that are invasive to freshwater systems, rangeland ecology, reforestation of forest back to their natural state, land use by small mammals, using camera traps to understand behavior and diurnal range of small mammals. Something interesting about me is that I always look like I am angry/frowning, trust me I am not. It’s just  that I’m bit sensitive to bright light.

Deputy Park Warden/Legal Officer, National Park Service

Hello  Wildhub community, I am excited to join this community, Thank you for accepting me. I am a legal officer working in the conservation sector. I am an advocate for wildlife conservation, gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) community engagements  and development. My experience  working  as  a legal officer  and a conservationist and engagement with host communities  around the Park has helped shaped my perception on conservation. It has helped me realise the need to strike a balance between protecting and conserving  biodiversity and the interest of indigenous  communities around the  park. Also the role indigenious knowledge and rural women play in nature conservancy.
