Louisa Richmond-Coggan
Conservation & Sustainability Consultant, LRC Wildlife Conservation Consulting
I am a conservation and sustainability consultant with a passion for combining real-world conservation practices and innovative Web 3.0 technologies to help organisations scale their impact, build trust, and drive new opportunities for engagement and funding.
Through my work, I develop tools and frameworks that bridge the gap between traditional conservation efforts and the integration of Web 3.0 technologies such as blockchain, digital certificates, IoT, DAOs, and the metaverse. This combined approach supports knowledge sharing, informed decision-making, and the adoption of practical solutions tailored to the unique needs of conservation projects.
Are you working with Web 3.0 technologies or exploring how they could apply to conservation? Whether you’re developing new ideas, facing challenges, or just curious about this space, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s connect to discuss your thoughts, experiences, and how we can collaborate to create impactful solutions.
Background
I am a Conservation and Sustainability Consultant with over twenty years of experience spanning field-based research, conservation management, and leadership development. My career has evolved from conducting large carnivore ecology and human-wildlife conflict research across Eastern and Southern Africa to designing and implementing innovative conservation solutions that address today’s pressing challenges.
I hold a Master’s in Conservation Biology from the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology, University of Kent, and a Ph.D. from Nottingham Trent University, where my research focused on variations in brown hyaena density and distribution across South Africa. My work has taken me into national parks, conservancies, and private farmland, including leading Namibia’s National Leopard Census Project, which combined field ecology with multi-disciplinary approaches to assess leopard population pressures and trends.
As the Academic Dean of the School of Wildlife Conservation at the African Leadership University, I trained and developed the next generation of entrepreneurial, mission-driven conservation leaders. My work focused on the 'Business of Conservation,' positioning conservation as an opportunity for sustainable economic and social development.
Building on this foundation, I now focus on helping conservation organisations explore and adopt innovative Web 3.0 technologies such as blockchain, IoT, and digital certificates to scale their impact, drive transparency, and unlock new funding streams. Through my consultancy, I develop tools and frameworks that bridge the gap between technology and conservation, empowering organisations to make informed decisions and achieve tangible results for nature and communities.
My work combines ongoing conservation initiatives, including research, project design, and field-based management, with the integration of technology-driven solutions. Both areas are essential for addressing conservation challenges at scale, ensuring that organisations have the tools, knowledge, and capacity to achieve lasting impact. By aligning these two areas, I provide a holistic approach that delivers meaningful, real-world results and transformative opportunities through innovation.
I'm a marine ecologist passionate about communication and engaging local communities in shifting towards environmental sustainability. Looking forward to expand my career from academia to work at a wildlife conservation organization. I believe the wildhub community is a good place to get inspired. PhD in Animal Science. Experience in teaching, advanced statistics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), sampling and identification of estuarine and marine fauna (plankton, macroinvertebrates and fish), stable isotope analysis and otolith microstructure. I enjoy working in an international environment where I can continuously learn and apply my broad set of skills ranging from research, teaching, communication, and languages.
Hello, I'm Joana Guerreiro. As a lover of wildlife I focused my studies in Biology (Bachelor) and later in Conservation Biology (Master). I analysed zooplankton samples, followed up bumble bee hives, tracked down badgers to be vaccinated, evaluated an Eurasian otter distribution model, helped controlling invasive species and contributed for some wildlife monitoring projects. While studying, I had the opportunity to travel and discover how immense is biodiversity, how little I know about it and how much I want to protect it. Different places introduced me to different ways to interact with my surroundings. Also, I found my love for communication. Presently I'm working has a science tutor for a study centre. I'm looking for a job in conservation field so that while I keep researching what inspires me, I can share it with others and give my contribute to both science and society. I'm here to learn, share and get inspired.
Liga para a Protecção da Natureza (LPN) was founded in 1948, thus being the oldest environmental NGO of the Iberian Peninsula. It has a national scope and a background intrinsically connected to some of the major landmarks of the portuguese modern environmental history, such as the creation of the only national park in the country and several natural parks. LPN has also co-chaired the creation of Castro Verde’s UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and is currently part of its management board, being the only NGO with a similar responsibility in Portugal. In its more 72 years of existence, LPN has been distinguished with many international awards (e.g., Land for Life Award, UNCCD - United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, Best LIFE-Nature Projects 2008 and 2013) and some of national most prestigious honours.
LPN aims to contribute to Nature’s conservation and to the environmental protection, by having the sustainable development definition as a guideline and the desire to assure a quality of life to the present and future human generations. Some of its major projects include LIFE-funded projects to preserve the endangered Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus), the cinereous vulture (Aegypius monachus) and the stepparian birds of Alentejo, among others. In Castro Verde, a southern municipality in some of the portuguese most beautiful but also less-favoured regions, LPN has been implementing an award-winning project for 20 years that connects biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation with local socioeconomic empowerment through a close work with farmers and the stimulation of ecotourism.
Besides this, LPN has also a focus on environmental citizenship, education and training. There is a constant and ever-increasing effort on initiatives and projects that allow to escalate the ability to reach and sensitise people, from every age group. From forest literacy to ocean literacy, passing to the creation of different teaching resources, LPN ensures to take its message to thousands of people every year. Teachers are one of the most common targeted audience since they can easily increase the outreach and directly implement new strategies and test new resources and ideas with their students. With this in mind – and looking for a professional continued training and knowledge transfer capacity –, LPN created a training centre, certified by the national authorities to develop an annual programme of courses, covering a wide spectrum of topics, always with a solid technical and/or scientific basis.
