I am a Senior Investigator at KWS (Kenya Wildlife Service) and a passionate advocate for biodiversity conservation with more than 10 years of experience in this field. Prior to my current role, I served as the faculty head of Wildlife Education at the Kenya Wildlife Service Law Enforcement Academy. My research interests center around natural resource economics, ecosystem services matrix flow, marine ecosystem valuation, and analyzing issues in a changing world, such as trends in wildlife species population, illegal wildlife trade, unregulated and unreported fishing, climate change, marine pollution, community livelihoods, and ocean governance.
I have extensive cross-cultural experience collaborating with both international and local partners on biodiversity conservation initiatives. My interest in biodiversity conservation was sparked at a young age of 10 when I developed a deep love for nature, leading me to pursue a BSc in Wildlife Management at Moi University, Kenya. Later, I earned an M.A. degree in Biodiversity and Natural Resource Management at Nairobi University, Kenya, and I am currently pursuing a PhD in Biodiversity and Natural Resource Management at the University of Nairobi. These educational pursuits are driven by my passion to find solutions to biodiversity loss not only in Kenya but also globally.
As part of various professional associations, I am a member of the Conservation Finance Alliance (CFA), the Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA), Women In Marine Science (WIMS), and IUCN - Commission on Education and Communication Specialist Group.
My specific interest in Blue carbon ecosystems was sparked during my attendance at the Blue Economy conference in 2018, held in Nairobi, Kenya. I take great pleasure in exploring innovative ideas and mentoring future thinkers. Every day, I am deeply concerned about the future of humanity if the threats to our environment continue without restraint. Thus, my primary focus lies in implementing policies and regulations that prioritize and involve local communities in conservation efforts.
Hi, I am Wildlife Manager with experience in species conservation and monitoring. Conducting Research, habitat protection and rehabilitation by fighting illegal activities detrimental to the environment and species.
I work for Conservation Nation we are a new non-profit that relaunched in late 2021 after a long, prior history of being Friends of the National Zoo in Washington, DC.
I head up the marketing and communications along with running the grants program. Our focus is helping to make the conservation field accessible to a broader group of people and amplify those voices through our grants, education and outreach programs. My background is in program management, marketing and communications but my passion has always been in conservation and I've had the opportunity to volunteer for several conservation organizations. My two parallel paths have intersected with my role at Conservation Nation.
Ignatious Kudakwashe Maeresa
Program Management Unit Lead Land and Natural Resources Department, Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association
Based in the UK. Passion for wildlife stems from living abroad and global travel to many national parks and protected areas in my youth and early adulthood.
Degree qualifications in agricultural economics/rural resources/environmental policy.
Worked in environmental consultancy projects and waste management (reduction, reuse, recycling) collaboration, campaigns, education and service.
Volunteered part time 2010-2019 for wildlife charities (education/interpretation) and a national park (species surveys and water quality monitoring).
Refreshed knowledge of ecology through online introductory course 2014. Completed certificate in ecological consultancy 2020 under lockdown and gained qualifying membership of CIEEM.
Now wanting to mould and formalise project management experience in the wildlife conservation arena (while still in lockdown!) Feel the combination of skills and experience means I have a useful and valuable contribution to make towards improving the UK's biodiversity and state of nature, which has taken a big hit in the last decade.
Would like to do this in a paid capacity, but definitely in a volunteer role if that's all I can find to start with! Have already started making a contribution.
Amrein Tamásné Miskolczi Boglárka
Owner, leader, researcher and project manager, Ecological Farm and Bird-Nest Box Station
I have been dealing with chemical-free production systems, organic farming and the issue of biodiversity for a decade.
I run a bird nest station on my own farm, where I research the possibilities of cooperation between birds and people. During my work, I developed an agricultural production system that uses the ecosystem services of birds to help implement agroecological practices while making the landscape healthier. It was named the bird-human cooperation system.
My goal is to create a win-win relationship that realizes the long-term sustainable use of land and landscape, with particular attention to agricultural production systems.
