I’ve played sports since high school, so I joined a local softball league to stay in shape and meet new people in the area. I’m the captain of our team this year, so I ask my team to show up an hour early to warm up and run some plays before the game. I even helped a fellow team members improve their swing. I encourage everyone to communicate during the game and try to keep each player involved so they can get more experience. I want to be a leader in my next employment position, and my experience as a team captain has provided me with opportunities to conduct training and boost morale in tough situations.

I have a lifelong fascination and love for all things zoological which began at an early age, as I grew up on a "diet" of nature and wildlife documentaries from Animal Planet, National Geographic, The Discovery Channel, and more. My most recent work experience has mostly been within laboratory animal husbandry. My true passion, however, has been within the realm of wildlife conservation, and after a series of short-lived jobs within laboratory work, I decided to close that door, and finally pursue my "true calling". Ideally, I am looking for a full-time job which may utilize writing or photography to promote the conservation of wildlife worldwide. The aspects of wildlife conservation I am most passionate about are the protection of biodiversity, and endangered/threatened species, education and public outreach, and human-wildlife conflict. I have a B.S. degree in Zoology, and an M.S. in Environmental Studies (concentration: Conservation Biology). Over the course of my studies, I have gained experience in performing and analyzing field research.  Among the skills I have developed are Microsoft Office and the programming language R. I also participated in a study abroad in southern Africa, taking part in field work involving species abundance and diversity. As a requirement of my M.S. degree, I completed a thesis in which I explored the impact of realistic coyote models and samples of coyote urine on deer behavior as a means to decrease their browsing in residential areas.  Currently, I am a volunteer Writer for the New England Primate Conservancy. All-in-all, I am leveraging experience in technical/scientific/creative writing, project management, data collection, and wildlife photography. I am extremely responsible, organized, creative, and a hard-working individual who loves learning new skills. My photography has also been credited by organizations such as The Nature Conservancy, the Smithsonian's National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, and Zoo New England. Ricardo Nogueira Martins (Luzern 1990) is the Executive Director of the Local Protected Landscape of Sousa Superior, and a Researcher collaborator at CECS - Communication and Society Research Centre, a leading research unit of the University of Minho. He holds an MSc in Geography - Planning and Territory Management, and a PgDip in EU Policies and Territorial Cooperation from the University of Minho. During his academic career, he studied at the University of the Balearic Islands, Spain, and worked as a research fellow. He is a member of the World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA) of the IUCN, a member of the Scientific Committee of the UNESCO Fourth Colony Geopark, and qualified in EIA – Environmental Impact Assessment as a competent expert in Territory and Soil by QPAIA. He truly believes in green diplomacy.

Hi there, I'm Bex, a freelance content marketer soon to finish my Master's in Conservation. I have a wealth of knowledge and experience in marketing, but hope to transfer over to project management and development in a conservation context. I'm currently working on a project around UK biodiversity renewal, volunteering for Cornwall Wildlife Trust, and working for a few charities on their communications pro bono. I am an environmentalist and a natural resource economist who specializes in data analysis, forestry, hydrology, REDD and EIAs in Zimbabwe.

I am often called a conservation planning specialist, but my 25-year professional career also encompasses other components of biodiversity conservation projects, such as management; monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) and technical auditing. Geographically, I specialize in Latin America and Africa, but my assignments have also included the projects in the Middle East, South-East Asia and Europe. I am used to work in different cultural, social and disciplinary settings, involving a number organisations and audiences, as well as a diversity of conservation projects, from large-scale conservation initiatives (Patagonia, the Amazon, Western Africa, Mozambique Channel), to community-based conservation projects (Brazil, Mexico, Peru, DRC). My approach is based on a three-fold background in social sciences, environmental sciences, and geography. My fluency in Spanish, French and English, an increasing proficiency in Portuguese, and a deep cultural and gender sensitivity allow me to seamlessly work in different settings and locations worldwide. I love my work, but besides work, I also I love dogs, being in contact with nature, cooking, reading, meeting new friends and travel.

I am a PhD candidate at the Durrell Institute of Conseration Ecology (DICE), hosted at the University of Kent. My research focuses on how land use change influences human well-being in central Indonesia. My background is in tropical forestry and development. Other research interests include the application of food systems thinking in forestry issues, biodiversity and food security at the forest-water interface, and the management of multifunctional landscapes across the tropics. I am a keen advocate of strengthening international and inclusive collaborations in forest and conservation research.
