I am a biodiversity conservationist from Cameroon. I recently completed a Professional MSc in Biodiversity Conservation and Management from the University of Bamenda, Cameroon and I am currently pursuing a Conversion MSc in Wildlife Resource Management in the same University. I have been serving as a volunteer for Apiculture and Nature Conservation Organization where we engage communities around protected areas in the North West Region of Cameroon in alternative livelihood activities in order to reduce stress on biodiversity. With the ongoing socio-political conflict in Cameroon’s North West and South West Regions, it has made conservation activities in these regions difficult as forest reserves are now used as hideouts for the non-state armed groups (NSAGs) whose activities are posing threats to biodiversity in these areas. With this setback, I have been working as an independent researcher in Cameroon’s Eastern Region precisely in the Nki National Park which is considered as the “last true wilderness” in Cameroon with lots of biodiversity. My studies have concentrated on forest elephants: its dung decay rate, population status, feeding pattern, anthropogenic disturbances. Human-Elephant conflict is very prevalent in this park which warrants mitigation.

Silto Jaime Cristóvão is a Biodiversity Conservation Specialist and Environmental Activist. He has a degree in Biology teaching with habilitations in Chemistry teaching from the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics of the Pedagogical University of Mozambique (UP-FCNM). Currently he is a Master candidate in Geographic Information Systems and Natural Resources Monitoring at the Catholic University of Mozambique, Faculty of Economics and Management (UCM-FEG), Beira, Sofala and Master candidate in Territorial Planning and Biodiversity Conservation from Zambezi University, Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources (UZ-FEARN), Chimoio, Manica. He is also a candidate for a Professional Driver's License. Mr Cristóvão worked as Coordinator of SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool), Biodiversity Survey and Monitoring in Niassa Lion Project or Niassa Carnivores Project, a Biodiversity Conservation and Environment Protection company based in Niassa Special Reserve. Has experience in biodiversity research, especially carnivores, having participated in the last carnivore research call up edition, in the Niassa Special Reserve in 2018. He also worked as a Research Officer for the Wildlife Conservation Society Mozambique, a non-profit organization that manages the Niassa Special Reserve in partnership with the Government of Mozambique through the National Administration of Conservation Areas (ANAC). Silto Jaime Cristóvão has a wide experience in Natural Resources Monitoring, Biodiversity Conservation and Environmental Protection acting as Conservation Biologist. I have been working in the conservation sector since the mid-1990s, largely based in the UK and working for international NGOs. I began as a grant fundraiser and moved into programme management, including working with a range of partnerships/coalitions. I am also a technical writer and I have worked on various projects from high-level reports to blogs. I have an MSc from the Durrell Institute of Conservation Ecology at the University of Kent (UK). I currently work for ANIMONDIAL - a travel consultancy advising on Nature Positive tourism and other aspects of animal and nature protection in the travel industry; I manage our Animal Protection Network of on-the-ground conservation projects.

Hello!  I have worked in natural resource management and environmental education for several years.  In 2022 I moved from Washington State to southern Belize and joined Toledo Institute for Development and Environment (TIDE) to complete a number of capacity buidling projects and an impact assessment of TIDE's high school scholarship program (big impact!).  Along the way, I assisted with grant writing for both organizational sustainability and scientific research grants.  I completed the contract with TIDE and am now working as a consultant for Empowering Climate Solutions, based in southern Belize.  As a natural resources professional I think every day about the impacts of climate change on everything (!) and as an educator, my goal is always to empower others to take command of their future.  I love diving and baby turtles, and when I'm not working I enjoy walks with our dog, yoga, and cooking.
