My name is Tesfaye Golja Ayalew, and I have been working with the Ethiopian Wildlife Conservation Authority for the Past 12 years. During this time, I have served the Authority in various positions within the Information Communication Directorate. Currently, I am conducting research in the field of Law enforcement on the topic “Enhancing Wildlife Law Enforcement in Babile Elephant Sanctuary Using IoT-Enabled Anti-Poaching Networks.”

My work focuses on climate change, marine conservation, coastal resilience, and climate adaptation and mitigation. As an MSc Coastal Science and Policy Fellow at the University of California, Santa Cruz, I am committed to working with young people and local communities to co-create climate adaptation strategies that integrate traditional knowledge with scientific insights, fostering inclusive and sustainable climate policies. Beyond science, I am a conservation storyteller and photographer, using powerful imagery to amplify the voices of coastal fishing communities and advocate for marine conservation and climate action. Dr Renuka Thakore is the Founder of Global Sustainable Futures: Progress through Partnership Network to achieve Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 targets. She encourages systems thinking, engagement and active participation of multiple stakeholders for effective governance and management for sustainable transformations, use of transdisciplinary methodologies, co-creating solutions that are multi-modal and ‘value-added’ to relevant stakeholders. I belong to a village situated on the outskirts of Karachi comprising of fisher people and vast mangrove forests. Not many fisher people of Pakistan are able to jump out from the circle of illiteracy, however few us did graduate and now were are working so that every fisher gets a chance to fly their graduation hat in the air. My father is a social worker so volunteering my time for social issues and activism is in my spleens.
I advocate for the protection of biological walls the mangrove forests by various means. We organize Mangroves Safaris for people to sea the mangrove forests in person. Experience how this amazing ecosystem is at work. We get the youth involved and design social action projects with them.

I then left and joined the Natal Parks Board as a Ranger, working first in the Natal Drakensberg ( Afro Alpine) then Hluhluwe -Umfolozi Complex ( African Big Five Savannah ) then Coastal Region ( Rocky Shores Estuaries Mangrove Woodlands ,Sandy Beaches and Coral Reefs) Left the NPB and took over from Dr. Ian Player as Director of the Wilderness Leadership School father of the Wild Foundation. As part of the Wilderness Foundation SA founded Msinsi Holdings a private Conservation Management Organisation, from there to Angola as Director of Kissama National Park, a National Park on the Atlantic Coast of 10,000 Sq Kms. 120 Kms of Coast with two major river systems with Sea Turtles, Mangroves and Manatee in the River System. Was involved with the then biggest Aerial Translocation of Big Game from SA. to Angola.Then to Luingui-Luina- Mavinga National Parks 94,000 Sq Kms as a Technical Advisor to the Minister of Environment current delayed currently in Durban SA because of the Covid lock down!

Originally working as a set designer and model builder in the theatre and film industry, I undertook professional retraining in ecology, wildlife first aid & rehab as well as in wildlife conservation. In addition to that, I volunteered at two wildlife rescue centres on Vancouver Island and at a Portuguese wolf sanctuary. Educational highlights, so far, have been the workshops in Strategy Development and Project Management for WC by WildTeam UK and my time at the rescue centres. I had the most rewarding moments while caring for wild animal patients. Species I've been handling so far: river otter, great horned owl, fawn, a variety of songbirds, hummingbird, a variety of water fowl, great blue heron, crow, raven.
I am an educator and project manager with over 20 years practice in education for sustainable development and learning from nature. My focus is on helping organisations to improve the quality of their learning provision for a sustainable future and enhance their ability to deliver projects effectively with lasting benefits. I have worked in over 30 countries with NGOs, government, business and civil society organisations.
I established Wild Awake as a not-for-profit social enterprise. Its purpose is to develop and provide learning which inspires change towards a more sustainable planet, and support people to live healthy and happy lives which respect natural limits. It achieves this through providing learning which reconnects people with the natural world through first-hand experience. It brings educational expertise in terms of curriculum development, writing activities, training and consultancy in pursuit of this.
