Applications are now open for The Darwin Initiative grants.

Introduction: The Darwin Initiative offers various grants to support projects focused on biodiversity conservation and multidimensional poverty reduction. These grants cater to different project stages and objectives, providing funding opportunities for a wide range of initiatives. Below are the key features and criteria for each grant category.

Note: Every grant requires capacity building activities. 1. Darwin Initiative Main:

  • Grant Range: £100,000 to £600,000
  • Duration: 1 to 3 years, starting between 1 April 2024 and 30 September 2024, completing by 31 March 2027
  • Scoring Criteria: Technical, Biodiversity, and Poverty Reduction
  • Emphasis: Deliver strong results based on good evidence and potential to scale further
  • Focus: Capability and capacity building activities as a core component.

2. Darwin Initiative Extra:

  • Grant Range: £600,000 to £5 million
  • Duration: 1 to 5 years, starting between 1 April 2024 and 30 September 2024, completing by 31 March 2029
  • Scoring Criteria: Technical, Biodiversity, Poverty Reduction, and Scaling
  • Emphasis: Projects on a clear scaling pathway, demonstrating potential to scale further
  • Focus: Capability and capacity building activities as a core component

3. Darwin Initiative Innovation:

  • Grant Range: £10,000 to £200,000
  • Duration: 1 to 2 years, starting between 1 April 2024 and 30 September 2024, completing by 31 March 2026
  • Scoring Criteria: Technical, Biodiversity, Poverty Reduction, and Innovation
  • Emphasis: Testing novel approaches with potential for scaling
  • Focus: Opportunities to enhance capability and capacity

4. Darwin Initiative Capability & Capacity:

  • Grant Range: £50,000 to £200,000
  • Duration: 1 to 2 years, starting between 1 April 2024 and 30 September 2024, completing by 31 March 2026
  • Scoring Criteria: Technical and Capability & Capacity
  • Emphasis: Developing the capability and capacity of local and national organizations
  • Focus: Structured training, fellowships, mentoring, and organizational development
