Conservation Leader, Susan Chege Reuben
I am working as an Intern at African People and Wildlife (APW) Northern Tanzania, under the Youth Environmental Education and Women Mentorship program. Before being at APW, I worked as Research assistant at Greater Mahale Ecosystem Research and Conservation, Western Tanzania, where I was collecting feeding data on the Eastern savannah chimpanzees under supervision of a PhD Student, Ms Rhianna Drummond-Clarke from MaxPlanck Institute, Leipzig German.
Conservation is my true passion since I was born because I am coming from localities with diverse attractions and wildlife resources including the Highest free standing Mountain ( Kilimanjaro mountain) and the north Pare Mountains which are the biodiversity hotspot. As I was growing I have been witnessing a loss of biodiversity and reduction of ice cap from Kilimanjaro Mountain because of climate change and habitat loss and these solidified my passion for wildlife. Well, I like conducting research especially for primates and invasive species because I believe in evidence-based solutions.
I am very happy and so excited to join the WildHub community for the PMWC training course to sharpen my skills in a particular area as in my current role I work closely with community projects and they require some expertise from project management too. Not only as a job qualification but also ingredients for advancing my career in conservation because am looking forward to start a Mater's degree in Conservation of African Ecosystems , which I will be confident to deal with projects that will be developed from pursuing this degree. Furthermore, the wildHub community will be a gateway for networking and knowing people who are in conservation space where we can learn, advice and lift each other.
I like travelling and exploring the indigenous communities culture like the Maasai, Hadzabe and Chaga People from Tanzania, telling conservation stories and taking people to local tours is the most thing I do most during holidays. Down here, I am sharing link to showcase the organization I am currently working, and how women mentorship program is done by APW.
