For many conservationists, the Falkland Islands are something of a dream destination. Their remote landscapes and rich marine ecosystems support an incredible diversity of wildlife, while the islands’ globally important fisheries create a fascinating — and sometimes challenging — environment where conservation, science and sustainable fisheries management come together.
If you have a background in marine biology, marine ecology or fisheries, there are currently two opportunities that are particularly worth a look.
🐟 Policy Officer – Bycatch Mitigation & Fisheries Management
Interested in the bigger picture of marine conservation? This role sits at the intersection of science, policy and fisheries management, with a particular focus on reducing bycatch and supporting sustainable fisheries.
The successful candidate will contribute to policy and management work around bycatch mitigation, including issues affecting important marine species such as seabirds and marine mammals.
It could be a great fit for someone who enjoys turning scientific knowledge into practical conservation policy — and who wants to make an impact in a place where fisheries management and biodiversity conservation are closely connected.

The Fisheries Observer position offers the opportunity to spend time offshore collecting biological data and monitoring fishing activity, helping provide the information needed to support the sustainable management of Falkland Islands fisheries.
For someone with a marine biology background who loves fieldwork, wildlife and being at sea, this could be a particularly exciting opportunity.
