Hello All, I am so glad to have found this community! My name is Manya Russo and I am from Malta and based here at the moment. As a Project Manager with Birdlife Malta, I am currently working on a 5 year conservation project to improve the status of two endangered seabirds; the Yelkouan Shearwater and the Balearic Shearwater. My main work revolves around tackling bycatch of shearwaters, and controlling the population of mammal invasive alien species which predate on the eggs and chicks of these seabirds. I am also a keen science communicator and enjoy working with fishing communities and mariners as our key stakeholders.

I am also the chairperson of a young local eNGO called Zibel which tackles marine litter and carries out scientific research on plastics. My main role here is acquiring funds and applying for grants for the NGO to continue its mission, and running our projects.

I am an avid diver, and all around outdoorsy person, who really enjoys learning about other NGOs and projects in conservation and meeting other professionals in this field!

Hello Manya, welcome to our community.  I am glad to have you here.

I have  a new research project on microplastics ingestion by zooplankton, I will love us to find time and meet up to share your experiences if that's ok by you.

This is home for conservationist and you will love it here.

That's great, Manya! Unfortunately, I won't be able to join and meet you this time around. Hopefully, we can meet at another one.

You're welcome Manya. I see we have similar interests, I just finished a waterbird survey in coastal communities here in Nigeria and it was fun relating with the fishing communities. I'm also carrying out a project with young women to help curb marine litter. However, I'm interested in the mammal invasive alien species predating on the eggs and chicks of the seabirds; could you please throw more light?

Hi Manya, welcome to WildHub! What a wonderful job you are doing with the fishing communities, I wonder how your project started its relationship with them and if you have a couple of lessons learned to share about it?

I am also working with local communities and beginning an interview process to understand their perception of the Andean bear conflict. I think the main lesson we've learned so far is that they have strong needs and should be included in all decisions made in their area. =)
