I am enrolled in the next wildlife project management cohort. I decided to join the class after obtaining a certificate in general project management (PMP) ,this course (wildlife project management) will then give me an opportunity to tailor my knowledge and understanding to this niche which I am dedicated to. I have several years of experience in wildlife projects in CERCOPAN Nigeria earlier in my veterinary career, this shaped my worldview and love for conservation and it's governance and management. Like a stubborn bug in a humid rainforest, the feeling never left and I kept seeing myself drawn back to wild animals.

A warm welcome to WildHub, Uchenna! Great to have you join us and thanks for sharing about your background. Your description of your returning love for conservation as a 'stubborn bug in a humid rainforest' made me laugh :)
Based on your work at CERCOPAN, what has been your most important learning moment so far related to conservation?
Also, if you don't mind me asking, what kind of opportunities (e.g. knowledge, connections) are you looking for, outside of strengthening your project management skills even further?
Wishing you a fruitful Project Management course!
Hi Thirza, thanks for the welcome. Yes, it's been an off and on journey for me as a conservation enthusiast. Well, I'd like to look at my experience holistically as the trend seems to re-occur whether I am in the damp forest of Calabar Nigeria or in the arid desert of tabuk,Saudi Arabia. Stakeholder engagement and buy-in is key to every successful conservation effort and as such emphasis, energy, time should be dedicated to identifying, categorising and keeping stakeholders engaged, informed, consulted, accountable as the case may be and "keeping it real" with no hidden agenda,is essential to the longevity and sustainability of conservation projects.
I find fulfillment and often smile to myself anyday I wake up surrounded by animals roaming free in their natural environment,so apart from my many forays into other aspects of veterinary medicine to satisfy family responsibilities, there's always been the pull back to conservation which was my first port of call after vet school.
So, to have an opportunity to work as a wildlife, conservation project manager will mean a lot to me and I am currently trying to get the required knowledge,(PMP and enrolling here) training to fulfill the role when an opportunity presents.
Thank you.
Wonderful to read, Uchenna. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and reflections with us.
Useful to hear about the importance of stakeholder engagement and buy-in in your experience; I can relate to that. I also wonder what your feedback would be on WildTeam's Stakeholder engagement for wildlife conservation best practice manual (found here). I know that the training team are always looking for ways to improve our manuals and courses :)
Based on your interests, I would recommend clicking on the "Watch" button of our Job opportunities room, so you will be notified of any new opportunity that is published there. Any questions, please let me know.
