Dear conservation community,
We’re excited to share a new update that gives you more control over the privacy of your content, regardless of where you post it! This change will make it easier to manage who can see your content while enhancing collaboration in both public and private spaces.
What has changed?
Previously, the privacy of content was tied to the room or channel it was posted in. For example, content in a private room would be private, and content in a public room would be visible to everyone.
With this update, you can now set the privacy level for each piece of content individually, no matter where it's posted. A new Visibility dropdown menu (see screenshot below) will appear on your Authoring page sidebar, offering three main options:
- Public: Visible to everyone, whether they are signed in or not, and can be posted in both public and private rooms.
- Signed In: Only community members who are signed in can view this content, even if it's posted in a public room.
- Private: Only members of the room where the content is posted can see it, even in public rooms.
The visibility settings you will find at the top of the right-hand menu in your authoring page. Make sure to select "Private" if you are a member of a private room and you wish your content to be shared with members of the private room only. |
Why is this change beneficial?
This update provides more flexibility:
- You can now publish private content in a public room, which lets you offer exclusive content to room members while keeping the room itself accessible to others.
- You can publish public content in a private room, making it easier to spread important information across multiple spaces. This is especially useful for those of us who host (private) rooms in WildHub when sharing opportunities or resources that could be beneficial to other members outside of our (private) rooms too. For example, the University of Gloucestershire @Mark O'Connell , the Conservation Leadership Transformative Network (Cambridge University and Maliasili) @Shelley Bolderson , the International Primatological Society @Elena Cunningham , @Tatyana Humle , @Jo Setchell @Steve Unwin , Whitley Fund for Nature @Lisa Wheeler, DICE (University of Kent) @Annabel Falcon and @Bob Smith , Conservation Optimism (Oxford University) @Jon Taylor, Oxford Brookes University @Magdalena Svensson and @SUSAN CHEYNE , Fauna & Flora @Chloe Hodgkinson @Laura Owens, Kang4Nature Kenya @Ruth Jepkemoi , @Collins Busuru , @Kelly Brian Wanjohi , @Wangui Kaitho and @celline awuor , and the Women in Conservation Canterbury Network @Leanne Riddoch , @Reaa Chadha , @Irene Romaria Pinondang in addition to our WildTeam training team @Ali Skeats , @Mavuto Banda , @Liane Fulford , @Léa Kaplani, @Zoe Melvin , @Lucy Boddam-Whetham
This change also sets the stage for a future feature that will let you publish the same content in multiple rooms at once.
What will happen to your current content?
No need to worry! Existing content will automatically be adjusted to fit the new system:
- Private/secret rooms: Content will remain private.
- Public rooms: Content will remain public.
Please make sure you always assign one channel and/or one room to your content before publishing, otherwise your content will get lost and will not be archived. Publishing content in a room or channel will notify members by email who have opted in for this room/channel of your new content, which optimises the readership of your content.
If you have any questions or feedback, feel free to comment below or reach out to me at hello@wildhub.community
We’re excited about how this update will improve your content management and I look forward to seeing how you use it!

Hi @Thirza Loffeld , thanks for letting us know about this new functionality!
I've been getting email notifications from the wildteam-gwwc-oct-dec-2024 room, although I'm not on the course and don't have access to that room. Does this relate to these new privacy settings, or is it because I follow @Liane Fulford ? I'd like to turn off these room notifications, but I'm not sure how to do this given that I'm not a member of that room. Thanks for your help
Hi @Lucy Tallents
thanks for letting me know about these notifications you've been receiving. A few follow up questions so I can get a better idea of the situation:
1) Do you only receive notifications of posts published by Liane in the gwwc 2024 room or also from other members that publish in this room?
2) Would you be able to forward me these notifications, so that I can explore if their visibility settings are indeed set to "public"?
Many thanks for your help and I will wait for your email.
Thanks, Thirza! I'm also getting emails from Liane posted in the SEWC and PMWC Sep-Oct 2024 rooms, and Ali Skeats posted in the PPWC Sep-Oct 2024 room. Again, I follow Ali but am not on any of the courses and cannot access the rooms. I don't think I'm getting notifications from anyone else in the rooms. I'll forward you some examples so you can investigate
