Self introduction
Hello everyone. I am Romance HOUNKPATIN, a project manager living in Benin. In addition to social justice, inclusion and education, I have a deep interest in nature and its preservation.
I embarked on this journey because I believe that we all contribute to the balance of nature. I want to learn more about how to protect wildlife and help save species.

Welcome to WildHub, Romance! It's great to have you join us. Would you like to share more about your work? Are you involved in conservation initiatives in Benin?
Thank you @Flavia Manieri . Nice to meet you.
Yes, with one of the NGOs I am member of, we planted mangrove trees on 1 hectare of land in one of Benin's wetlands in 2024 to contribute to the restoration of mangrove ecosystems.
Did you know that they represent natural protection elements for flora and fauna, in addition to being the ecosystem that absorbs the most CO2 of all the ecosystems in the world?
They also serve as a refuge for many endangered species and represent an essential link in the migratory birdlife (Gowthrope & Lamarche, 1993).
We did this in collaboration with local authorities and development stakeholders in the area, and it was an opportunity to raise awareness among communities about the crucial role wetlands play in ecological balance.
I want to be better equipped to contribute to wildlife conservation on a larger scale and interacting with people like you and taking part to PPCW will certainly help.
Can you tell me more about you? Your work, perspectives and where you're working?
What a wonderful project! I have done research in flood risk management and mangrove forests play a crucial role in reducing the risk of flooding in coastal areas. They pretty much act as natural barriers and significantly reduce the extent of flood damage. How wonderful is that! Mangroves are often undervalued and misunderstood, and definitely deserve greater recognition! 🙌
I work as a researcher & lecturer these days, mostly in the field of environmental social sciences. I am interested in the complex relationship between people and nature and my expertise lies in environmental management and policy.
Please feel free to write a separate post about your mangrove project in Benin, I am sure many of our members will find it insightful! Thanks for sharing!
