César is a Costa Rican biologist, with an interest in ecology, behavior and conservation of birds. He has been working with various bird programs for the last two-decades, but also more recently he worked as a professor for undergraduate students studying abroad. César joined MRN in 2021 and brings an ornithological knowledge to the team, along with his passion to study and conserve Costa Rica’s amazing Parrots.

I am a biologist and work as a mammals expert and project manager (interested more in large carnivores research and conservation, such as brown bear, wolf, and Balkan lynx) at PPNEA NGO, in Albania. I have experience in monitoring and researching endangered species such as the Balkan lynx. Since 2015, I am coordinating the Balkan Lynx Recovery Programme in Albania. Also, in 2021,  I completed the MAVA Leaders for Nature Academy.

I have a doctorate in vegetation ecology and special interest in research of rock outcrop ecology. I have been a consultant for various biodiversity projects and teach interdisciplinary papers that explore environment and society interactions. I have served at government committees for biodiversity conservation and lead Rock Outcrops Network.

Hi all!  My name is Alexandra Howard and I'm a South African PhD candidate focusing on the ecosystem services of bats in apple farms in the Afromontane Research Unit at the University of the Free State in central South Africa. After graduating with a Masters degree in Zoology from the University of Pretoria, I worked as a research manager in the NGO sector with a focus on endangered species including vultures, rhinoceros and pangolins. My goal is to connect the fields of science, conservation and society by narrowing the information gaps and encouraging collaboration.

My career started as a volunteer diving with Coral Cay Conservation in Fiji, which got me hooked to become a marine biologist. Currently, I'm working as a marine scientist for an environmental consultancy (5OES) based in Oman, which I've done for the past 14 years. My work encompasses marine environmental monitoring, baseline surveys, conservation and research projects plus training. I studied for my BSc in marine and freshwater biology at Aberystwyth University and then an MSc in marine environmental protection at Bangor University, UK. In between working for 5OES I have also worked with the Dept. of Environment, Cayman Islands Government as a field research assistant. I'm a PADI Assistant Instructor as well as an AMSO Instructor (https://www.amso.ae/) My interests include sea turtle conservation & rehab, cetacean research & rescue, coral monitoring & research, plus outreach & education. I love travelling and have had the fortune to work in the Caribbean, UK, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE and Fiji where I've met some wonderful people in the field. 

I am a dedicated professional with excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills, underpinned by strong attention to detail, a commitment to collaboration, and a can-do attitude. I have successfully applied my skills to support wildlife conservation and behaviour change projects, run professional adult education curricula, and develop and deliver startup accelerator programs. I am currently working for the RSPB in Northern Ireland. Working on a Curlew project, improving and recreating their habitats, monitoring them as they settle to raise their chicks. I love being outdoors. I recently completed an apprenticeship to bring myself into the conservation sector. My I love working with animal/environmental charities, as this is the area I'm most passionate about. I've worked for WWF, Greenpeace & Surfers Against Sewage, as well as grassroots organisations. As I'm neurodivergent, disabled, a carer and from a working class background, I'm passionate about making sure projects and campaigns are as inclusive as possible - we need everyone to change the world on the scale needed. Studying an MA in Anthrozoology part-time at Exeter (remote). My final project is studying vocalisations of critically endangered captive Javan Green Magpies and how we can use bioacoustics to inform welfare and understanding. Primate fan, but now falling in love with song birds. I have a BSc in Biology from St Andrews and won an Undergraduate Award for my genetics research. I live in the UK. Hello! I'm Rebecca, and I am currently Course Leader for Higher Education at East Durham College. I decided to join MSc Primate Conservation after being inspired during my BSc in Animal Conservation Science. I found a book called "Gorillas in the Mist" and I had a lightbulb moment - primates! I had found my niche. This was confirmed later when I travelled to The Gambia to census the critically endangered Procolobus badius temmincki, during my thesis studying the Callithrix jacchus, and travelling to India to work in a rehabilitation centre for grey langurs and macaques.  I absolutely loved the MSc. It broadened my knowledge, increased my opportunities and really kickstarted my professional career. The lecturers are some of the best the field and it was a privilege to be brushing shoulders with such hard-working academics on a daily basis. I conducted my MSc thesis research at Blackpool Zoo, focusing on Gorilla gorilla gorilla social relationships and enclosure use. The chance to work with this charismatic species was a dream come true! The research has helped the zoo redevelop their gorilla enclosure, using my data to make informed decisions. I am also very happy to be part of a fledgeling, yet crucial organisation: Mountain Marmosets Conservation Program. As part of the Core Operation and Development Team, I am responsible for applying for grants, coordinating a team of students to develop a workshop planning meeting, and researching anything and everything about marmosets! This wonderful program is aiming to help develop an Action Plan to help save the endangered marmoset species' Callithrix aurita and Callithrix flaviceps. I hope to become even more involved with the program as we progress. Finally, I hope to progress onto a PhD within the next five years, developing my expertise and skills in primate conservation. Stay tuned for more primate related content! 

With experience in Marine Animal Rehab., Rescue and Research coupled with a nerdy love of data, data science and all things technology, my data collection software company, WatchSpotter is the cumulation of my life’s work. From the hallways of the Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center at the University of New England, my affinity for caring for marine animals was fostered and grew. Being tasked with the center’s life support systems and flow thru animal pools further opened my eyes to water quality, fecal coliforms, and bio-loads.  I was the primary research technician in a multiphase study: Protecting the Saco River: Tracking non-point fecal pollution to its species source. Upon leaving UNE, I traveled to the Southern Great Barrier Reef Australia to work on an international research team focusing on population dynamics for three cetacean species. Once back stateside, I sharpened my Software UX skills working as a software consultant for Centersoft Technologies. After a brief stint volunteering for the Dolphin Photo ID program at Florida Atlantic University Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, I was hired to join the team. I split time the first years at FAU HBOI between the Harmful Algal Bloom lab and the Dolphin Population and Assessment Lab. Settling in as a Research Assistant for the latter as well as a first responder for the Marine Mammal Rescue Team. In working with the Dolphin Population and Assessment Primary Researcher, along with other industry collaborators, I soon became the PIs data analyst and was paramount in the creation and development of the programs state of the art cloud-based SQL database platform. I worked as a liaison between the research program and software architects to assure ease of use, maximum data output and advanced analytics. The software is still used by the newly formed team today.  At the end of 2019 it was time for me to branch out on my own.  In the spring of 2022, WatchSpotter was born. My idea was to create a customizable SaaS application that could be used by researchers worldwide. Data is data- scientific questions need to be answered. My contingency was that no matter what the research topic- if the research brings people into the field-whether scientists, volunteers, or citizens, they are there to gather data-to answer questions. I knew that the two biggest challenges facing many environmental research groups were time and money. It would not be feasible for most nonprofits or other environmental institutions to pay for custom software- which often runs in excess of $150K nor do they have the time to wait for such programs to be complete.  These known challenges fueled the customization and simple UX that make up the WatchSpotter platform. When I’m working with Environmental Science or software, I enjoy being outside in the woods or at the beach, volunteering and hanging with family and friends.
