Recent Discussions
Hello,
I’m reaching out as a recent master's graduate in primate conservation currently working in Indonesia, where my colleague, Lilli and I are training local agroforestry farmers to monitor biodiversity and protect forest ecosystems. We’re building on existing work to expand this grassroots initiative, focused on sustainable, community-led conservation.
A good amount of our funding has fallen through so we’ve launched a small fundraiser to support workshop delivery and fieldwork logistics. There is more information on the Gofundme page. If you know of anyone who contributes to projects like these, their contacts would be greatly appreciated as well. Thank you!

Seeking remote internship in conservation management, MEL, and/or SMART implementation
Hello,
My name is Aislinn Olthoff, and I recently completed my MSc in primate conservation from Oxford Brookes University. I am passionate about human-wildlife conflict (HWC) mitigation and conservation project management and am currently seeking a remote internship opportunity in these fields.
I am particularly interested in gaining experience with:
SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool) implementation for conservation projects
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) frameworks in conservation contexts
Given my field experience in HWC research and species conservation research across diverse ecosystems (including Indonesia, South Africa and Costa Rica), I am eager to apply and expand my skills in a remote setting. My expertise includes data analysis (R, SPSS, GIS) and community engagement, which I hope to further develop within a professional MEL framework.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions or insights regarding potential openings (and online courses). If your organization offers professional development experiences related to SMART implementation, MEL, or remote conservation management, I would be thrilled to connect.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you!
Warm regards,
Aislinn Olthoff

Look for a conservation NGO to collaborate on Bin Zayed grant
Hello,
My name is Aislinn Olthoff, a recent master's graduate with an MSc in Primate Conservation from Brookes University. For my dissertation, I was fortunate to receive multiple grants to travel to Bali and Lombok to investigate human-primate interactions in community forests. Moving forward, I am eager to continue gaining on-the-ground experience, particularly in human-wildlife conflict. With this in mind, I am planning to apply for a Bin Zayed grant to further this work and am now in search of a conservation NGO to collaborate with.
The Bin Zayed grant focuses on endangered species conservation initiatives. Possible areas of focus I would be interested in pursuing include community-based initiatives to curb human-wildlife conflict on farmland or post-release monitoring of translocated individuals previously involved in HWC, but I am very open to discussing other activities or areas that would align with your organization's priorities. Though the project must involve the conservation of a specific endangered species, it could be with an NGO in any country, though I am partial to working with an NGO in Indonesia given my previous experience.
The grant application deadline is October 31, 2024 so the timeline is tight. However, I am very excited about the prospect of working with a local NGO and am fully committed to submitting a strong proposal. If successful, I would be available to work in the field for approximately five months, starting in March 2025. Alternatively, the Rufford small grant is another option and has no deadline though I would like to begin the planning process as soon as possible regardless.
Please let me know if this is something you would be interested in exploring further. I look forward to hearing from you and hope we can discuss this opportunity soon. Thank you!
Warm regards,
Aislinn Olthoff
